Good afternoon. I am new to this list and having a tough time finding information about our Shaw families in Vermont. I have the obituary for FRANK M. SHAW stating he was the son of LEMUEL and SUSAN SCOTT SHAW. They lived in the Barnet, Craftsbury and Danville areas of Vermont. Is there anyone out there that might be searching this family.. I have found that Lemuel was a Civil War soldier and enlisted Aug. 11 1862 in Barnet. But I haven't any of his military details yet. Thanks for everyones time..and hope to hear from someone soon Diane
1860 census for Barnet, Caledonia, VT shows Shaw, Lemuel 27 or 37 ---Susan 23 or 33 ---Ellen 12 ---Chas, 9 ---Francis 6 ---Morris 1 all b VT except for Morris b NH 1870 same place Shaw, Lemuel 46 b VT ---Adaline 36 b IL ---Francis H 16 b VT ---Morris N 10 b NH ---Edith B 2 b VT Scott, L.D 8 b Missouri so looks like Susan has died and Lemuel has married Adaline who first married ? Scott. Think with the big gap between Morris and Edith that Edith must be child of second wife. Also looks like Scott may not be Susan's maiden name, but the obit writer may have confused the names. Or they could be related, not that uncommon, and Scott could be correct as Susan's maiden name. If you discover the answer I would be curious to know what brings Adeline back east from IL (or north from MO) and how Scott came to be born in MO. The bizarre thing is that there is an Adeline Scott in 1860 MO born in IL age listed as 24 (sounds promising, right?) but she is still there in 1870 as well, and husband is still alive--so has to be a coincidence--guess you can not be too quick to draw a conclusion. I would think the census ages could be a little off and Susan and Adeline could be the same person (if one is the middle name, or a nickname), with L.D. Scott being a relative in HH, but for that to be the case the POB also must be in error on one or the other census, so it is a mystery. -------Original Message------- From: Diane Date: 08/07/05 15:04:49 To: [email protected] Subject: [SHAW] LEMUEL SHAW in Vermont Good afternoon.
