I'd like to know if anyone knows anything about an Edward SHAW, who was born ~1855 in ENGLAND. The only thing I know about him comes from the 1881 Census for Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He is listed there with his wife, Elizabeth (HENDERSON) SHAW, who was born ~1855 in New Brunswick. (She listed herself as "Irish" and might have been part of the HENDERSON families migrating from Ireland to New Brunswick in 1840's.) Edward and Elizabeth SHAW had their baby daughter, 7 months old, with them in Saint John in 1881. And, they had a 10-year-old girl, Jessie HENDERSON, living with them (probably a relative of Eliza's). It appears that Edward and Eliza SHAW had at least ten children born to them while they lived in Saint John, NB, and they were born between 1880 and 1900. I am guessing that the couple married in Saint John in 1878 or 1879. So, Edward SHAW was probably living in New Brunswick by 1870-1875. I have no idea whether he came to Canada as an adult, or as a child coming over with his parents. One of their younger daughters was Hazel SHAW, b1895. In 1912, she married Allan McCAVOUR of Saint John, NB, and they had a son, Ronald McCAVOUR, probably in 1912 or 1913. Ronald and Hazel seem to have "separated" in 1915, and both went to the U.S. separately - leaving their baby in NB. Around 1917, Hazel was marrying her second husband, Charles BEDELL, of near Boston, MA. They reportedly had four children born to them between 1918 and 1923. This marriage also ended in Divorce. Around 1936 to 1938, Hazel married for the 3rd time to -- my grandfather ! So, Silas Dean LEWIS became the step-father to her four BEDELL children. Because of the Internet, I have found the daughters of two of the BEDELL children, and we all met for the first time this summer. Because I have been doing genealogy for 10 years (5 years on-line), I volunteered to attempt to create a family tree for them. Unfortunately, the extended family of .. Mrs. Hazel (SHAW) (McCAVOUR) (BEDELL) LEWIS .. is full of "mystery," "unknowns," "family secrets," etc. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. When Hazel died in 1948 in CT, the obituary said she left two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Warren of Saint John, NB, and Mrs. Lottie PARKER of Cambridge, MA. Both couples had married in Saint John, NB. I do not know when .. Archibald and Charlotte (SHAW) PARKER migrated to Massachusetts. And, I don't know if they had children.
