Hi, Bille. For more information, please go to the Shaw DNA Project page at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/s/shaw/index.html Once there, you can learn about how DNA testing works, etc. You can click on the "Recruitment" link to learn how to participate. The "Results" link shows the Shaw line participants and matches to date. There is also a "patriarchs" page for posting family trees. If you decide to participate, you will order your DNA test kit directly from the project. The cost per participant is dependent on the number of markers tested, but all tests include an estimate of the Haplogroup (an indication of deep ancestry). It is recommended that you test the largest number of markers that you can afford, however, there is a basic 12 marker test available. It is important for as many Shaw descendants to participate as possible. If you believe you are descended from or connected to this specific southern Maryland Shaw line, and you absolutely cannot afford the cost of testing, we have a few Shaw descendants who are willing to assist in paying some of the costs of the testing. If you would like to request financial assistance or sponsorship for DNA testing, please make a request to me, and provide information on your southern Maryland Shaw family connection. Requests for testing sponsorship will be reviewed and considered on a case-by-case basis, and is dependent upon the number of requests we receive, as we have a limited amount of sponsorship monies available. If you wish to contribute to the Shaw grant/sponsorship program to help promote Shaw DNA testing, please let me know. Please consider participating, and please pass this information along to other Shaw relatives who might be interested. Thanks.
