My ggrandfather James A. "Jim" Shaw born 1850/51 in Texas IAW 1880 census for Cooke Co. TX. It also states that his father & mother were born in TX. He married Malissa Aplin & they had 3 children before they split up. Family history says James & family came to Oklahoma where he & Malissa split up. Sher remarried to george Humphries & they resided in Pauls Valley, OK til their deaths. George & Malissa had 2 daughters & they were raised along with my grandfather John W. & his bro. David. I've searched every known source, roots, genforum, anc. family history etc & come up empty. Don't think DNA would help as my mother was the Shaw no my father. You might do it the hard way and start looking through the 1850 census records for Texans named Shaw that were born in Texas, just to narrow down your search. Is there an 1840 census for Texas? Have you looked for birth, death, marriage records in county courthouses? I have a Thomas Jefferson Shaw who was in Parker County, Texas, but he didn't get there until 1854. He had a son James, but that son was James T., and of course the parents wouldn't have been born in Texas. Thomas Jefferson Shaw had a brother Granville who was in Texas starting in 1836, but I don't know who his children were. Chances are he had a James, though, because their father's name was James and they all named a child after him. Again, the parents wouldn't have been born in Texas. Beverly Park Peavler P.S.
