I also noticed the infant Mark with them on the ship and wondered the same thing about him as you. But then I got looking at some of the other families on the 1880 census and there is a Cole family just above the Shaw's that have a Richard(11)and Mark(9m) who were also on the passenger list and the same ages. I don't know if they were all related or friends or something. Maybe it has nothing to do with it at all. Just a thought. I know exatly when Christopher was born. He was born on Feb 19 1890. And Frank was born in 1886 although I don't have a date or month. The story in the family has been that Christopher Sr.(my 2nd great grandfather) was killed in a mining accident before Christopher Jr. was born. I had heard that it was in Flagler,Iowa,USA but have not been able to verify this yet. I also have heard that Christopher Jr. was born in Weir,Kansas but I can't verify this either because the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire or flood or something. But he and Frank are both on the 1910 census listed as stepsons of Emmanuel Edwards. Martha must have remarried this man when Chris was about 3. Do you know anything about what happened to Ann? And when Christopher married Martha Downes? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
