If not, I have posted a few messages and links to the board. I am not related, just sharing. Jane Curci wmcurci@aol.com http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?GABRIEL::shaw::5478.html ################## http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?GABRIEL::shaw::6308.html I can tell you that Gabriel Shaw, listed in Wake County, North Carolina in 1790 and 1800 soon moved to Smith County, Tennessee and died there in 1807. He was married on 17 April 1778 in Granville County, North Carolina to Mavel Mobley, daughter of Mordecai Mobley and Dorcas Read of Wake County, North Carolina. The known children of Gabriel and Mavel (Mobley) Shaw were a daugher who married James Cunningham, a daugher who married John Allen, a daugher who married James Corder and Cary J. Shaw (1787-1852) who married James J. Wier in Wilson County, Tennessee in 1812. There were likely other children as well. I descend from Cary Shaw and James Wier. I suspect that John Baptist Shaw and Zachariah Shaw are related to Gabriel, but have seen no real proof. It has been suggested that one Timothy Shaw was the father of Gabriel, but again, I have not found proof. ################## http://genforum.genealogy.com/shaw/messages/6308.html I can tell you that Gabriel Shaw, listed in Wake County, North Carolina in 1790 and 1800 soon moved to Smith County, Tennessee and died there in 1807. I too have seen several posting concerning a Timothy Shaw as the father of the Shaws that appear in the 1790 census for Wake County, NC. One of the postings SHAW-L@rootsweb.com from Hudson Allen states that from his research it appears that the ancestor of this family was Timothy Shaw, who first appears on a tax roll for Lunenburg County, Va. in 1750. By 1760's he is found living in Johnston County, N.C. in the portion which later became Wake County. He also states, that he has found many land dealing between Timothy and John Baptist Shaw, William Shaw, Zachariah Shaw, and Gabriel Shaw. In Fact, Timothy deeded land to Zachariah and William Shaw both on the same day in 1778. Using the following facts Mr. Allen states why he believes Timothy to be the father. 1. Timothy Shaw was older and appears on records first. 2. Timothy Shaw has land dealings with all the above younger Shaws, deeding land to each of them. 3. Timothy's land adjoines the other Shaws land. My question is, what happened to the William Shaw and his family? I have seen postings about each of the other children. There are so many Williams and if you are searching for one of them, its like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Our William Sanford Shaw, was born in Wake County 1807 and possibly his brother Peyton R. Shaw, born 1805 in Wake County. Hopefully someday this brick wall will have a glimmer of light peeking through. Again, thank you so much for sharing your family informatin, and by doing so, maybe someday in the near furture, we can find which Shaw family of Wake County is our Ancestors. Jackie Storay Shaw ################## http://genforum.genealogy.com/shaw/messages/8310.html Hi Jackie, I have John Baptist(e) Shaw who was born abt. 1755 in Wake County, NC. I have not been able to find siblings or parents for him. My John B. married Frances McEllory on Dec. 3, 1771. They had 9 children. John and Frances died in Wake County but their daughter, Elizabeth, who married William Perry in Wake County died in Bigbyville, Maury County, TN. They had 13 children and one of their daughters married into my husband's JONES lines. I would be very happy if you ever get proof that Timothy was the father of John B. and Gabriel, etc. were his siblings. That would be great. I have never been able to come up with anything, even in the NC Archives. Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
