Do you have info (deeds, wills) on any other 19th century Shaw's in N.C. I'm trying to trace those in Halifax Co. , and to a lesser extent Warren Co. Names such as Jesse L. Shaw, and any planter Shaw's in Halifax Co (Littleton, Roanoke Rapids, et al) Thank you B. Bayne -- This is information on my Aaron Shaw, grandson of Benjamin and Rhoda Shaw,of Guilford county, NC, this was a quaker family, that immigrated to Indiana. I am trying to link my Shaws to Wilbur Shaw of Indianapolis 500 fame, there were alot of ties to the racetrack in family stories. Rick Leland "Shaw:Aaron (3564) (b. 16 Dec 1809, d. after 1870)" __________________________________________________________________________
My brick wall has been ARON (yes, spelled with one R) Shaw. Family states that his name was Aron, and this name and spelling was passed on to my grandfather George Aron Shaw. However, census and other records refer to him as Wiley Shaw, using the four sons and location as proof that this was our man. Aron/Wiley had four sons - Willis Riley Shaw (b 1860), John, Robert (b 1862), and George. His wife's name was Phoebe or Phebe, last name unknown. Wiley also shows in the Cumberland County, Illinois, 1860 census. Toledo, IL seemed to end up as a home base. Other info shows the family in Coles County (Charleston, IL). One set of records shows him born in Illinois, another in Pennsylvania. The obituary for his son Willis (d 1933) states "Mr. Shaw was born June 17, 1860, in Charleston, Ill. His parents died when he was a small boy and he was left to make his own way." The obituary for Robert Shaw (d 1945) states "Robert Shaw, son of Wiley and Phoebe Shaw, was born in Crawford County, Illinois on October 16, 1862 and departed this life on September 25, 1945, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 10 days." Any help? Bob Shaw
