Hey! Listers! Cheer for me! I finally found something! And, Rose: here's a story for you. My Grandma Shaw told me her folks were from Connecticut. Grandma died in 1948. After looking for years in Connecticut lists, I discovered the Shaw bible in my mom's back closet (in 1990). Grandma Shaw's father, grandfather, G grandfather, and GG grandfather were listed in that bible. I finally had birth dates, marriage dates, death dates, but no locations. I accidently stumbled over the GG Grandfather,Warren Shaw, in Johnstown, New York. He was born and married there. He died in Birmingham, Iowa. God knows why it was Birmingham--not I! All the other Shaws in my family lived in Trumbull County, Ohio. For the past four months I've been on the internet on four different New York lists and one Ohio list looking for Warren's parents, John and Persis Shaw. Today I traveled eighty miles to the nearest library that has pension lists. I found John Warren Shaw in Maryland! Who would ever guess! Rose, go to the census records for your 1890 family. They will give you sooooo much information about the family. If you get back to 1850, start looking through pension records. Those two sources are better than anything else for finding folks. jrpitch wrote: > A lot of you may know what area your Shaws came from and have a chance of finding your relatives going by countries, states, counties and such. I have no locations for my earliest Shaws of 1787. My earliest location is of my grandfather in 1890. So I watch for the names. Which hasn't helped either. > > Rose > > ==== SHAW Mailing List ==== > > ============================== > Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp
