William Shaw and Mary Waldron left Co. Wexford for Kingston, Ont. in 1820 with 3 young children, Susan, b 1810, Thomas, b. 1816 and and an unknown child, possibly William. Mary died just before reaching Kingston and is said to be buried on Amherst Island. A photo of Susan taken about 1835 survives and on the back it says in part "granddaughter of Sir John Waldron, Earl of Cushendell and Mary Lauder". Other family lore says that William and Mary were born in Armagh, but the obituaries of Thomas and Susan both say the children were born in Wexford. Looking for any possible connection to these Waldrons or Shaws. >From what I have learned, it seems that travelers to Kingston in that era would disembark at Montreal and then travel by land to get around the rapids at Prescott and then I assume the rest of the journey would be on another ship. Can anyone help me with this? Joe
