    1. [SHAW] Re: JAMES and WILLIAM SHAW - 1718 MD.
    2. I also descend from William and Margaret Strong Shaw of Md. Walker Co. GA Heritage Book has several Shaw families. William sailed from Portsmouth, England and settled in Maryland. There he married to Margaret Strong, sister of Christopher Strong. He made his will 4 Apr 1718 and it was probated 27 Jun 1718. (Abstract of Maryland Wills). he mentions wife Margaret, sons William, Christopher and his youngest son James. He left estates in Great Britian and America. James Shaw, son of William and Margaret was born April 1718 MD. He married Margaret Thompson whose father was William Thompson of prince George, MD. James was a member of the Colonial Militia of Md and land proprietor (abstract from MD Wills). He made his will in Md on 13 Nov 1780 and it was probated on 21 Nov 1780. He names daughters Nancy, Sarah, Martha and Jane, and sons John, William, James and grandson William. Here is where there is some confusion in the Heritage Book. One article said James, the youngest son of William, married a Jane Shaw. I do not have access to the Maryland Wills book. Can someone clarify? They lived in Nantoscoake, Dorchester Co. MD. Did James the youngest son of William, marry a Jane or Margaret Thompson, or possibly both? I then descend from John Shaw, son of James, the youngest son of William. He was born in MD 29 Jan 1763 and died in Greene Co. GA Jan 1848. He married 1786 to Mary Waggoner, they had 9 children. He served in the Revolution with the NC Militia. He settled in Georgia and established a working plantation of 300 ac. in 1786. His part of Greene Co. later became Warren Co. GA. This Heritage Book give lots of descendents of 2 of John's sons who came into Walker Co. GA, Amos b 1789 m Sara Maxey and George b 1796 m Jane Patterson. I do have proofs for my lineage through John and Mary Waggoner as I joined the DAR through that line. But do not have any records beforehand. Alicyne Roth, Kensington (Walker Co.) GA
