    3. The older generations of your Shaws are very interesting. Here is some more grist to add to that mill. Our Shaw line looks like: Generation 1: Mervil Shaw - b. 1914 in Washington State Generation 2: Jesse Alfred Shaw, Jr. - b. 1855 in Crawford County, WI d. 1927 Washington State Generation 3: Jesse Alfred Shaw b. 1810 Ohio d. 1862 Indiana circumstantial evidence suggests his father was: Generation 4: Patrick Shaw b. 1777 Iredell Cty, N.C. d. 1829 Wayne Cty, Indiana Generation 3: John Shaw b. 1732 (conflicting locations) d. 1823, Warren county, OH There are conflicting reports from different grandchildren of John Shaw. One says he and Margaret Kelley were from Scotland and married there before immigrating. A second grandchild reports that the original Shaw to the America's was Patrick Shaw in 1734 and that he had four sons, John who settled in Maine, William who settled in New York, James who went to Ohio and Patrick who went to North Carolina. This account says that the original Patrick was from Ireland and his wife Jane from Scotland. The other family researchers, who have spent much more time on this than I, have not been able to make any connections older than John and a land grant he received in Iredell County, NC in 1785. John picked up and moved his entire family to Warren County, Ohio in 1795. Clearly, if the family moved to America in 1734, this John would have been a tot at the time. If this makes any connection with your lines, we'd love to share more information.

    3. Larry--GROAN! There are always complicating and conflicting stories and information. I will certainly keep this in mind as I continue to check my information out. Thanks for sharing. By the way, I now live in Ohio (for the past 30+ years), but my family all came from Alabama and then Georgia. I still have lots of Shaw relatives down south. There are Shaws here in Knox County Ohio, but not related to me as far as I know. It would be strange if they turned out to be distant cousins.
