Hi, It's been a while since I posted my "Shaw Mystery" so I thought I would see if there might be any new list members who might have any clues... I am looking for information on my 5G grandfather Crispus SHAW. The data that we have indicates that he was born in 1763, possibly in Middleborough, MA, but that his family moved to Shutesbury when he was young. (One source indicates that he may have been born in Nova Scotia.) Crispus was a Rev. War veteran. He married Anna BURKE about 1786. He removed to Woodstock, VT sometime before 1787 (where their first son Benoni was born 8 Feb 1787). He apparently spent a few years in the Shutesbury, MA area before finally settling in Morristown, VT in 1798. We have no solid information on his parents, although from his Rev. War pension files we do know that he had a brother Darling SHAW who lived in Shutesbury, MA for several years after the war before finally moving to the Troy, NY area. Given the naming patterns, we suspect that Crispus and Darling are probably grandsons of Moses and Mary (DARLING) SHAW of Middleborough, MA. This would imply that their father's name would be either Benjamin, David or Crispus (we have ruled out Moses who moved to Nova Scotia). If anyone has any information that might tie into my SHAWs, I would love to exchange data with you! -Kevin Spaulding (spaulding@kodak.com)
