Hello! I'm looking for a 'John SHAW' who lived at Rock Falls, IL; he was a brother of my Great-Grandfather George Ramsay SHAW who was a Captain in the Civil War (for the Union) and was at the same battles you mention regarding your John SHAW. However, my Great-Grandfather was born in 1836. The Civil War was in the 1860's, I believe. I have been looking for a trail of my 'John SHAW' and it has been a dead end for me. My Great-Grandfather Capt. George Ramsay SHAW was also in the GAR....he lived in Prophetstown, IL; married Orpha Eva Warner; they had 2 children; my Grandfather Charles Sidney SHAW. Any connection? Hope so! Thanks for your time & concern on my behalf!
