Hi Deb, Well, after a couple of corrections, my Thomas Jefferson Shaw's parents were Joseph Shaw Sr and Sarah Marshall. Joseph is originally from Guilford County NC and his branch of the family went to AL from there. Does this make a connection for you? Barb

I have moved recently and my files are not with me, but, I seem to remember a woman named Betty in TX that has William Shaw as Thomas' father. She had lots of seemingly well researched information. Velma's info does not suggest this and I'm wondering about sources. By the way, I have Patrick's will at home (isn't someone looking for it?) Hugh, if I'm not mistaken, was in TN. My Shaws were in Jefferson/Tuscaloosa/Sanford/Lamar Cos of AL. He was John Shaw b 1798 SC, married Mary Lawley. Besides my John and your Joseph, there was an Archibald Shaw in that area. I can't connect their families, but people in Millport AL today say they were all related. We know that Archibald was from the Wilmington NC area (bc1775) and he had been in Abbeville SC along with Samuel Shaw (his father, probably) in the earliest censuses. Gilbert Shaw of GA, and probably Gardner Shaw of NC>GA was also connected to this family. There were also Shaws north of the Lamar Co Shaws. Adamson Tannehill Shaw et al. Frances Baker Lawley, the mother of my Mary Lawley, had Ninian Tannehill sign as her witness when her husband died and the estate was dealt with.... I also know that the Tannehills and Shaws were connected even earlier (before the Rev war) in PA. This is worth the study, since these are the Shaws that increased so in numbers and started the westward movement of our family. Anybody have any ideas?
