PS to Deb, Ooops, you asked about Patrick, not William. The only location in the colonies that I know of for Patrick was Guilford County, NC where he died. Others think he might have been in PA prior to that because of the usual route of Irish immigrants, but I know of no record of that, either. I do know that "a" Patrick Shaw was there...he is listed on an early survey, along with a Samuel Shaw (before 1800). Who was the William Shaw, the Indian trader that had his feet cut off by the Indians? Was it this William? Deb, I often suspect that, as others have indicated, whole families came over at one time or followed each other. That would account for similar names popping up. I do know that the names William Shaw, and Samuel Shaw show up a lot, and a few Patricks. I know of quite a few Shaws who did settle in PA, near where my husband's ancestors were, including a William, but as far as I can find, none were any kin of mine. Also, of course, certain names are popular at different times. These are not unusual names. And, no, there is no indication that William was an Indian trader or that he had his feet cut off by the indians, although it is documented that he fought the indians before the Rev. War. His Rev. War service is well documented, and afterwards, he moved south with his family.
