My information on William came from the National Archives Trust Fund Board Files 127, pp 1-2, NC Marriage Bonds 1744-1868 and Church records from Drumbo, Ireland on file with the LDS as well as numerous e-mails with researchers. My info on Joseph Shaw, Sr. and his son, Thomas J. Shaw came partly from the Ancestry of William Patrick McLaurin - World Connect, research by Rex McLaurin, and the Jobe Branches website. As to William being Thomas' father, if my dates are correct, William was b. 1758, d. 1842, age 84; Thomas was born 26 Apr 1836. While it is possible, I guess, it seems unlikely that William sired Thomas at age 78. However, his only known wife was 70 years old at that time. What IS possible, is that Thomas was not the son of Joseph, but of his brother William Shaw, Jr., b. 1795. Even if it is in several places the other way round, mistakes can be made and then copied by others (like me). On the other hand, your lady from Texas may be wrong.
