    1. [SHAW] James and Sarah Shaw of Hopkins near Ashton-under-Lyne, ENG

    3. Dear Shaw researchers, Is anyone researching James and Sarah Shaw who imigrated with their children aboard the Ship Arab, from Liverpool, Eng. to Philadelphia in May 1832? Among their children were Elkanah and Hannah, 20 and 18 resp., both christened in St. Michael's and All Angels Church in Ashton-under-Lyne, in Lancashire. Along with the family on this passage traveled one George Jackson from Derbyshire, who married Hannah and migrated with the Shaw family to Posey, County, Indiana by 1835. James was a weaver as was his father, David, whose family and his wife's Grace Hulley are well documented. I know nothing more about George though. His oath of allegiance only says Derbyshire, which is the adjacent county south of Lancashire. If this information is useful to someone I am happy. Anyone who knows a bit more about the Jacksons should fell free to contact me. Cheers, Jim Stevens
