Hello, My name is Chris Miller and I'm trying to find information on my g-g-g-g-grandfather, Denison Henry Shaw. I hope someone out there can help me find his parents, how they got to NY, their Scottish/Irish roots, how he moved to Cincinnati, OH, and who went with him to Cincinnati (if any of his family members). Denison Henry Shaw's father, name unknown, immigrated from Scotland to the United States around the year 1800 and settled in the east-central part of New York State. Denison was born 2/8/1813 in Chenago County, NY and died (1897) in Cottage Hill (later became part of Mobile), Alabama. He married his first wife, Margaret Bloxom (b. 2/7/1820, Worchester, NY), in Cincinnati, OH on 7/2/1835. They had four children: Emily F. (b.3/14/1837), Unnamed (b.11/3/1838-died as infant), Madoria A. (b.11/12/1839), and Margaret B. (2/3/1842-died 5 months later). Margaret Bloxom died 2/23/1842 in Cincinnati, OH. He married his second wife, Sarah Higdon (b.11/12/1821 in Hamilton County, OH), on 5/28/1843. They had two children: Charles Henry (b.10/13/1844-died at 11 months old) and Denison Henry Jr. (5/8/1846). Sarah Higdon died 10/14/1868 in Hamilton County, OH. He married his third wife, Sarah Elouise Parker (b.1/23/1847- Hamilton County, OH), on 12/23/1868. They had six children: Ida Jenne, George Skants, Charles Noah, Hattie Love, Benjamin Franklin, and Garret (Garry) Van Antwerp (b.7/1/1882). I have detailed information on all the children of the third marriage, but all were born in Cottage Hill (later part of Mobile), Alabama with the exception of Ida Jenne who was born in Hamilton County, OH. Sarah Elouise Parker died 2/14/1916 in Mobile, Alabama. Denison Henry Shaw and his wife Sarah migrated from Ohio to Cottage Hill, Alabama around 1870. The horse and wagon migration included the Van Antwerp family whom ultimately built the Van Antwerp Building in Mobile, AL. Garret (Garry) Van Antwerp Shaw was named in their memory. I hope this information will ring a bell with someone. Thank you, Chris --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? - Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Chris, my Shaws lived in Trumbull County (north of Warren and Youngstown), in Mecca. My Grandma's father was Johnnie Shaw and he had one brother, Howard Shaw. They were born about 1865. Their father was Rufus Millington Shaw and I believe he came from Herkimer County, New York, as did his father, Warren Shaw. Warren's parents were John and Persis Shaw. I don't have any names of brothers and sisters of any of these folks. But there's a good chance your family and mine are connected "way back". I will file this information you've sent, and will contact you if I find we have ancestors in common. I hope you will do the same. Finding the right Shaw is like finding the right John Smith! Good luck.. Carole Chris Miller wrote: > Hello, > > My name is Chris Miller and I'm trying to find information on my g-g-g-g-grandfather, Denison Henry Shaw.
