But then I got looking at some of the other families on the 1880 census and there is a Cole family just above the Shaw's that have a Richard(11)and Mark(9m) who were also on the passenger list and the same ages. I don't know if they were all related or friends or something. Maybe it has nothing to do with it at all. Just a thought. I know exatly when Christopher was born. He was born on Feb 19 1890. And Frank was born in 1886 although I don't have a date or month. The story in the family has been that Christopher Sr.(my 2nd great grandfather) was killed in a mining accident before Christopher Jr. was born. I had heard that it was in Flagler,Iowa,USA but have not been able to verify this yet. I also have heard that Christopher Jr. was born in Weir,Kansas but I can't verify this either because the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire or flood or something. But he and Frank are both on the 1910 census listed as stepsons of Emmanuel Edwards. Martha must have remarried this man when Chris was about 3. Do you know anything about what happened to Ann? I know that Chris came to America in 1880. He arrived with 3 children Alfred, Ernest, and Bertha. Also listed on the passenger list were a Hannah(as his wife) and Ann Cole whom I was always told was his wife. She is listed on the 1880 census as his wife but don't know what happened to Hannah. Christopher had two other chilren Frank and Chistopher. I know that atleast Chris Jr. was a Martha Downes. I don't know if Frank was though. Christopher Sr was killed in a mingin accident in either 1889 or 1890. Christopher Jr. was the youngest child born in Feb 1890 in Missouri or Kansas. Does anyone out there have more iformation? During a visit to Godmanchester's cemetery in 1988 I found a tombstone that had a Shaw that was married to a Tanner. I apologize that I do not remember the full names, but I am hoping that the female Shaw that was there is related to my Essie Shaw that married a Fredrick Clayton Tanner. Their birth dates are fairly close to each others (late 1800's). Unfortunately, I cannot find a connection with the information that I have at present. My Markham's are descended from Richard Markham (c 1800 -1837 and Mary Hall (c1801-1870). They had an Ellen but she is too young - she is shown on 1841 census with the rest of her family. I have not traced Richard's family - brothers/sisters etc. as it is pre-census and into parish records and therefore so much more difficult. My Bolton's descend from John Bolton b 1813 in Livesey - and Ellen Hayhurst b 1812 in Blackburn and I do not have a Thomas of the right age. My Great Grandmother was Nanny Bolton and she married my great grandfather Oliver Markham in 1891. Sorry not to be able to help. Shaw born on March 24, 1801 in South Carolina? William B. Shawis my gr-gr-gr grandfather. He married Jinnat "Jane", also called "Jennie" McCorkle born Feb. 18. 1802 in South Carolina and daughter of Stephen McCorkle and Mary Patterson. William B. Shaw and Jinnat McCorkle lived in the Charleston area and had several children there before migrating to Indiana around 1830 or so. My William B. Shaw is the son of William Shaw who fought in the Rev. War and was of Irish descent. I know this from Shaw family Bible records. Yes, there are several William Shaws! I have seen William Shaw and William B. Shaw 1820, 1830in the York Co. South Carolina records on the same page...so I'mguessing that it's my Shaws but not real certain about that. I don't think that the marriage licences for that area of time are easy to get at. About the only way I know is to contact the government archives up in Thunder Bay and request them to do a search. It, again unfortunately, is expensive and takes a long time to come back. You could also check with the local churches around where they lived and see if they have a record or check the local papers for that year to see if there is a marriage announcement.
