    3. Beverly, I'm not quite sure how, but your inquiry was somehow forwarded to me from the Shaw surname mail list from Rootsweb. I found it interesting. Although I don't have the Daly surname in my database, I do have both Shaw & Gallagher. From what timeframe and countries/states are your Shaw's/Gallagher's? And how do your Shaw's and Gallagher's relate to one another? An interested bystander....... 1. [SHAW] William Shaw b. abt. 1797, 1870 Census in Mobile AL w/ daughter Margaret Foster
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kasbes Surnames: Shaw, Foster Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.shaw/6734/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm trying to confirm one way or the other if this William Shaw of Mobile is a missing link in our family tree. Quick background of what we do know: William Henry Shaw Sr., born abt. 1834, died 1907 in Accomack Co., VA. His wife was Tabitha/Tobitha, b. abt. 1848 In Accomack Co., VA. William H. served in the Confederate forces with the 8th Alabama Co. C, which saw most of their fighting in Virginia. We believe this is why he settled in VA after the war and never went back to AL. Most of our Shaw line is still living in Accomack County today. But we do not know William H. Sr.'s ties to Alabama at all - was he born there, who were his parents, siblings? Family "verbal history" has said that our Shaws were from Scotland, but how far back we have no idea. One possibility I'm exploring is that William Henry Sr.'s father is the Wm. Shaw listed in the 1870 Census in Mobile, living with his daughter Margaret Foster along with her husband Wm. F and their children. I've also found who I believe to be this same William Shaw in the 1860 and 1850 Census records, no wife listed, with children including a son named William/W H Shaw whose age fits within the range of the William Henry Shaw Sr. we're researching. If you are descendents of Margaret Shaw Foster and know anything about this William born about 1797 in Scotland, I'd love to hear from you. 3. Hello Mike, It's me again after only 7 years. I have try to find the book with out success. Do you know where could it be possible to buy a copy? Thanks a lot Arturo Shaw -----Original Message----- From: Mike Shaw [mailto:mikeshaw@texoma.net] Sent: viernes, 01 de junio de 2001 4:47 To: SHAW-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SHAW] Clan Soc. Arturo, I haven't seen any answers to you so let me provide some info for you. I read the book between 10 and 12 years ago (by that I mean it took me about two years to read it!). I don't remember whether there were any Spanish lines but there were several lines covered. I remember specifically Wales and India being covered. But you have to know that this is not a genealogy book -- it is a history of the highland clan of Shaw. It contains enough genealogy to prove that Major C. J. Shaw was a direct descendant of the last chief of Clan Shaw to "matriculate" to the chiefship (be recognized by the Scots government through the Lord Lyon, King Of Arms) after the clan had no chief for a couple of centuries. So it does not contain a lot of genealogical info as do many books. It also has no table of contents -- which makes it not a very good reference book. I have promised myself to make a table of contents someday but luckily I didn't tell anyone about the promise. So my advice is to buy the book if you are interested in the history of Clan Shaw in the Scots Highlands. But it you are looking for a genealogical resource, your $85 (the price last time I checked) could be better spent. If you want to examine a copy, attend a Scots festival and you may find a copy at the Clan Shaw tent. Incidently, John Shaw of Todarrock is the son of C.J. Shaw and ascended to chief upon the major's death. He no longer lives at Todorrock but is closer to Inverness. Both he and Lady Silvia are very nice people and occasionally attend Scots festivals in the United State (I have visited with them at both Alexandria, VA and Williamsberg, VA. Several people I know have visited with him in Scotland, and found him gracious. -----Original Message----- From: Arturo Shaw <ashaw@pt.lu> To: SHAW-L@rootsweb.com <SHAW-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 9:20 AM Subject: [SHAW] Clan Soc. >Hi, > >I am the last member at the Clan Shaw Society (I guess) and I am >interested in buying the book "History and eritage of Clan Shaw" by J. >Shaw of Tordarroch but before I buy it I would like to know two things. > >First I would appreciate if anybody holding a copy of the book can tell >me if there is any mention about the Spanish branch of the family > >Secondly I would like to know if this John Shaw is alive and our >present "Chief" as some of my cousins are in contact with the "Chief" >and I think I can easily contact him but don't want to bother anybody else by mistake... > >I would appreciate any help. > >TIA > > >Arturo Shaw >ashaw@pt.lu > > > > >==== SHAW Mailing List ==== >http://members.aol.com/shawscty/index.htm >http://www.sourpress.com/clanshaw/index.html >http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/stoz/shaw.html > > ==== SHAW Mailing List ==== To contact the SHAW List Administrator: ListMom2@hotmail.com
