I have Shaws from South Carolina, too and all I have hit are brickwalls. My gr-gr-gr grandfather was William B. Shaw born Mar. 24, 1801 in South Carolina. His father was William Shaw, my gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather. I'm not sure who his wife was nor where he was born or the year. William' son, William B. Shaw married Jinnat "Jane" McCorkle also born in South Carolina on Feb. 18, 1802. I would love to know more about my gr-gr-gr-gr- grandfather William Shaw, who he married, his other children and where & when he was born. Do anyof these names sound familiar to you? With regard to my last post stating that this was not my George B Shaw you found in the 1930 census. I have since heard from cousins in South Africa that they have a photograph in their possession of a well dressed man astride a horse and written on the back is 'Mr George Shaw' California. It would now appear that this photo and your census entry may well indeed be one and the same person, any further info you or any one else is able to provide would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail is royan.shaw@btinternet.com for contact outside this board Thanks and kind regards, Royan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Shaw - age 42 b. Scotland. Single. Rents home for $30 per month. Owns a radio. Immigrated in 1912 and was a naturalized citizen. This is a very fancy neighborhood nowadays! There was also an appropriate candidate in the 1920 census living with his older sister, Margaret. Do you know if he had a sister called Margaret? If so, I'll send it over to you. He may have inherited her money as she was about 66 years old at the time. mary lou Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
