    1. [SHAW-L] Lena Shaw, Boston, MA 1880's
    2. zag
    3. Hi all, I'm looking for info on my GGGrandmother, Lena Shaw who married Isodor Hernandez in Boston in 1886. What I know about the family so far is that her parents names were Humphrey and Julia (Nagle) Shaw and although Lena gave many places of birth on various documents, I believe her parents came down from Canada into New York and that is where Lena was born in abt. 1860. It is possible that she had a sister with her in Boston (name unknown) and that her brother (name unknown) played the violin well enough to join an orchestra (this info is unconfirmed). Would like to hear from anyone who thinks there may be a possible connection. Thanks, Pat

    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi List, First, let me apologize to everyone who receives this e-mail more than once. I have decided to send this to all the lists I am on to help the most people. As you know, there are times when searching for films, you need the soundex number for the surname you are researching in order to rent the proper film. I have found a great website that all you have to do is type in the surname and it will give you the soundex code for that name. Hope this is of help to a lot of people. http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/soundex/soundex.html Sue in Florida macduff@infi.net

    3. Jan, The book Shaw's and Related Families starts with the 3 brothers I mentioned earlier. They were born in VA and moved along to surrounding states, so it is possible that you are connected, I just don't know how yet. :) It has all of the descendents until about 1970. The author was unable to locate anything further back at the time. Roy Louis Shaw, the author is now deceased and I have been trying to contact his children regarding any other information about the book. I know the book has information on the Descendants of Henry Shaw from NC, who came from Georgia, then to AL, and finally to TX. Several other Shaw's are listed, including a family of John Shaw from Mississippi. If your Shaw's are from these states or stopped in any of them you might find this book very useful. If you do find a link somewhere in the book please let me know because I would like to redo the book and include more lines of Shaw's that could be related. Hope this helps someone out there. Jaime
