Good day Shaw listers. My John Shaw came from England and i understand no middle names were given unless you were royalty. So for all of us who have English ancestors we are up a creek with out a paddle. But in searching England i found a John Shaw who invented some sort of musical instrument. Of course do not have the piece of paper in front of me. But if any one thinks this is their John will find the paper and let you know the instrument. Thanx. Viola.
Since the Holiday Season is upon us, I thought I'd take this time to send a few reminders. 1) if you are going to be out of town for a length of time, please "unsubscribe" from the list. You can then "subscribe" when you return and can check the archives for any messages that you might have missed. 2) Many people will have gotten their first computer during this time. These people are perhaps our "cousins" and they will be joining this list. They will be what some consider "newbies." They will make mistakes. I urge all of you to let me handle those mistakes. We have all made them and we want to encourage others to join our group, not discourage them by publically pointing out their errors. Your patience with these new listmembers will not only be appreciated by me, the ListAdministrator, but may benefit you. You never know when that "newbie" may have the missing information you've been searching for. New on the computer may have years of genealogical research experience that they are willing to share. I do have a "no nonesense" approach again this year to on-list criticizing. The first time is a private warning, the second time will result in you being removed from the list and placed on the reject list. Any comments to this message should be made off-list to me at shirleyscott@juno.com . I'm going to try posting this query again in the hopes it will ring a genealogical bell with someone. :) Artemus HATCH m. Hattie STEWART, daughter of R.J. STEWART (whoever that was) in 1882, Oneida, Madison, NY. Apparently by 1886 Artemus and Hattie were not getting along so well, because Artemus married (or not) one Lydia SHAW in Oneida, NY. Lydia would have been about 16 or 17 at the time. I believe she must have been living around (or with?) Artemus and Hattie, but I have been unable to find out anything on her in 10 years of looking. I have often supposed that she might have been the babysitter for a possible child of Artemus and Hattie. Artemus and Lydia left almost immediately for Kansas, and had their first child there in Sep 1886. Somebody out there must have information either on Lydia SHAW or Hattie STEWART (or Hattie's family), who I have also been unable to find any information on. Thanks, and Happy Holidays!! Anne

I have had some requests for the Shaws of Ottawa county, Oklahoma and I feel it is probably that the fairest way is to post it to our list. Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma 1917 directory shows: SHAW JNO E (NELLIE B) (Fourth Street Meat Market) r 15 L ne SHAW WM (SARAH L) lab r 110 G ne I have to admit, I was rather surprised that these were the only ones I found. However if anyone is also checking the variant spelling of SHOW there is one listed that I could gladly send. Victoria Brittain Allen
