Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the nice words of welcome I have received from so many of you. I have been on the SHAW list for a few years now, but under different email addresses. I haven't yet found my elusive SHAW family, but am still working on it! :) I also administer one other list on Rootsweb. I like the way the SHAW list has been running, and see no reason to make any changes at the present time... with one possible exception. I have been considering having [SHAW-L] put in the subject line on all the list mail so we can see at a glance which list the mail originated from. My thought was that this would be a help to the folks (like myself) who are on many different lists. Is that agreeable to the majority of list members? If there is general agreement, I will make that change. If not, we will keep it the way it is now. We will continue with the 'Country of the Week" that Shirley started. If there's no great objection, we will be going back to the 'State of the Week' once we have finished the countries. I for one noticed people posting to the state queries who I had never seen post information to the list before. I figure that by this time, people may have added some new tidbit of information to their genealogy, and it would be nice to have that information posted to the list. Does anyone have any other ideas? Those of us who are still looking KNOW that the information we seek exists out there somewhere...and it is just a matter of finding it. Much gratitude to Shirley Scott for making this such a great list, where everyone can post their SHAW genealogy information without fear of being flamed. That tradition will continue. Many thanks, Shirley! I will try not to mess up what you have accomplished here too badly. Anne Ward California (home of the rolling blackouts:)
Posted on: Shaw Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Shaw/231 Surname: SHAW, JOHNSTON ------------------------- I'm searching for information on the William and Mary Shaw family of Littleton, Halifax Co. William died between 1890 and 1900. He and Mary had Bettie, Rasberry D., Nora, Esa, & John H. Rasberry D. b.1881, married Panthea Johnston (b. 1883) in Mt. Olive Church in Littleton. 30 Dec.1903. Panthea's parents were Josh and Leannis or Lena Johnston. Josh died by 1903. Lena was still alive in 1920. If anyone has information, I'd love to hear from them. Stephen C. Miller sanka@gateway.net
Looking for information on B. D. Shaw. Dates of Birth & Death unknown. Married Sophia Hammond, date unknown Their son: William S. Shaw, born April 10, 1843, location unknown, married date unknown, Amelia E. Tracy of Coventry, N.Y. He died June 11, 1902, Afton, N.Y. Jean Cromwell
Do you have children/grandchildren for Sylvanus Shaw and Persis Stoddard? In some 25-year old notes, I had written down John Sylvanus Shaw. A few years later, when I got the family bible, I didn't see a middle name, so I crossed out "Sylvanus" in my notes. How I wish I could go back 25 years and be more exact about details like names of brothers and sisters, birthplaces, and sources! I could kick myself! The DAR book I took it from is no longer in the Little Rock library! Heads up, you new researchers--record everything, even when it doesn't seem important! The dates are perfect for hatching a young un' in 1808. However, Warren's parents were John and Persis. I do know Warren was born in Johnstown, NY. I've never heard mention of Maine in family stories--it was always Connecticut. I'll file this away for safe keeping. You don't know the children of John and Martha? The timing would be right for them to have children in '74-80, and one of their children to have my Warren. I'll go to Kennebec and see what I can find. Thanks, Ellen. Lots of activity on the list lately, so will try my brick wall again. John Shaw m 7/10/1785 Fannie Cleveland in Fauquier County VA. Don't think Cleveland was her maiden name, perhaps White. chn include James, Benjamin, Joseph [mine], Jesse and Betsy. Family settled in Shelby County KY where Joseph was born 1789. Any help most appreciated. Bob Martin Montgomery TX
Carole, I'm sending this to the group - perhaps others will recognize names. Be advised that born c1725 for example, shows up as b. 1725, though I don't put death dates in unless I know them. The 1st part is from a genealogy report and the other is merely a summary with names and dates, so if you want more information, ask me for information from the genealogy report - it's too long to put in here for now. Cheryl, I looked at the Hoveys, but I could only find descendants in the 1600s. Also descendants of Edmund Price and Jane Webb (moved from NJ to New Brunswick c1782) had descendants who married Hoveys. Perhaps Barry Price has information on this family? He, his parents, his brother Eliab, and sisters Elizabeth & Mary "Patty" Shaw all removed to Kennebec after the AmRev. Dale: did you say "Brick Wall?...7 years?" Try 30! I haven't found the right John Shaw yet. But I'm still looking. And the internet is definitely making things easier. Mine was in New York in 1800--I think. If you come across him and his wife, Persis, please contact me. I'll do the same for you if I find any Georgia Shaws. Actually, now that I think of it there are a lot of Arkansas Shaws who have migrated west from Georgia. There's even a book of the Shaw Family in Arkansas. Try looking there. rarecoins1@webtv.net wrote: > Hello Family! :-) > I'm hoping you may be able either to help me or tell me of a SHAW family > researcher with data > similar to mine. Deborah, you've probably already looked, but I should ask again. The John Shaw who moved later to Clinton, ME, in the 1780's-'90's--was his wife's name Persis? I'm trying to find them. One of their sons was Warren Shaw, born 1808 in Johnstown, NY. Carole Deborah Mason wrote: > Ellen, > > Can you give me a direct line as far back as you can? Just thought I'd add a note that I'm still researching SHAW families in Kennebec County, ME. Have yet to ever connect with anyone who's directly linked to this family during 18th-19th c. Thanks to Shirley and welcome to Anne! Regards, Ellen
you might want to email Barry price from his email address at world connect and ask him Price/Webb decendants who married Hoveys...we've exchanged info on Hoveys, as he had much stuff my step mom did not, but she had some people/dates that he did not. I'm still sorting these families out as they are not related to me. My step mom does not have internet access so i do what i can for her-the Hovey was a big find! cheryl
