    1. [SHAW] SHAW--- PA
    2. There is so much activity on Shaws right now. Must be time to put my brick wall on here again. I am looking for Anne, Ann, Annie Shaw Miller b. 12 April 1805 In Indiana County, PA. She married Henry Miller in 1824. That is all. They did move to Jefferson County, PA. Lillian LSchiendel@aol.com

    1. [SHAW] Crispus Shaw; MA>VT; 1763-1845
    2. Kevin&Debbie Spaulding
    3. Hi, It's been a while since I posted my "Shaw Mystery" so I thought I would see if there might be any new list members who might have any clues... I am looking for information on my 5G grandfather Crispus SHAW. The data that we have indicates that he was born in 1763, possibly in Middleborough, MA, but that his family moved to Shutesbury when he was young. (One source indicates that he may have been born in Nova Scotia.) Crispus was a Rev. War veteran. He married Anna BURKE about 1786. He removed to Woodstock, VT sometime before 1787 (where their first son Benoni was born 8 Feb 1787). He apparently spent a few years in the Shutesbury, MA area before finally settling in Morristown, VT in 1798. We have no solid information on his parents, although from his Rev. War pension files we do know that he had a brother Darling SHAW who lived in Shutesbury, MA for several years after the war before finally moving to the Troy, NY area. Given the naming patterns, we suspect that Crispus and Darling are probably grandsons of Moses and Mary (DARLING) SHAW of Middleborough, MA. This would imply that their father's name would be either Benjamin, David or Crispus (we have ruled out Moses who moved to Nova Scotia). If anyone has any information that might tie into my SHAWs, I would love to exchange data with you! -Kevin Spaulding (spaulding@kodak.com)

    1. [SHAW] Shaw Granite Wall
    2. Hello all, For over ten years myself and several others of my family have been trying to extend our mutual Shaw family line, unfortunately we seem to have encountered a major brick wall, perhaps someone out there has a key. Here is the problem, we are looking for information on a Jonathan Shaw and his wife Hannah Leather. Both lived in Holderness, Grafton County, New Hampshire in 1828 - 1834, but before that where? Who were Jonathan's parents? A Family tradition says they were of Scottish ancestry, but no one knows for sure. Unfortunately there were a great many Shaws and Jonathan Shaws in that area at that time, my hope is someone will connect through the Leather name, seems a bit unusual to me. Thanks in advance, Jim Shaw Vallejo, CA

    2. I believe my Shaw's must have immigrated to America around this time also. The earliest I am sure of is Robert Shaw who was supposedly born in Sumner Co. TN around the mid 1740s give or take a few years. He died in 1831. His wife was 101 when she died. She was born in Guilford Co. NC. Her name was Elizabeth Hamilton. Her father Thomas Hamilton was a very early settler in Davidson and Sumner Co. TN. He built the first station in our area of White House, TN during the troubles of Indian raids. I'm hoping to one day find the origins of Robert Shaw and Thomas Hamilton. Good luck in your researches. Carla Marlin

    1. Re: [SHAW] My line to Ireland & Scotland
    2. Your sixth generation and earlier interest me. Do you have children of these marriages? I'm looking for a Robert Shaw born probably around late 1740s or so. Some research says he was born in northern Middle Tennessee. I do know his wife Elizabeth Hamilton was born in Guilford Co. NC and married Robert in Sumner Co. TN. Thank you, Carla Marlin

    2. George Shaw
    3. Dear list, So much for touch typing. The risings were in 1715 and 1745, Culloden was in April of 1746. Many of these were deported as prisoners. "The King's Passengers to Maryland and Virginia" is a good source for the migrations. It is by Peter Wilson Coldham. See A Dance Called America by James Hunter for information on Scots displaced by the "Clearances" in Scotland. Those who came via Northern Ireland, commonly called Ulster, or the Plantations did so mostly between 1715 and 1775. settlement in Ulster was not forced, and took place under James !, after 1606. Later, economic circumstances and religious persecution of the Presbyterians (of which the transplanted Scots were a majority) led to the emigrations to America until The Revolutionary War interrupted the flow.* Geordie *The Scotch-Irish, a Social History by James G. Alexander SHAW, their son, my ancester was born Prince Georges MD in 1776; his brother Zachariah was born ca 1777. The 1790 census shows 5 males under 16 yrs of age. Who were the other three, was there also a sister? At least two children, Osborn (1792) and Charles Wesley SHAW (1794) born Shenandoah Co., VA, were born after 1790. Alexander, Zachariah, Osborn and Charles W. Shaw were in Licking Co., Ohio in 1820. Alexander died Fulton Co., Illinois; Zachariah died in Licking Co.Ohio; Osborn died in Muskingum Co., Ohio and Charles Wesley died in Scotio Co., Ohio. The names of Major amd Ralph Shaw have been suggested for other sons. Any information on these would be appreciated. Betty Bower

    3. Mike, I think you're right. I was a kid when my aunt told those stories. When you said Bonnie Prince Charlie, a bell rang in my head, so I called my dad. I also called my cousin, who is still digging through her mom 's stuff. She said that part of the family came here around1710 or so (my first Shaw born here was 1718). The brothers of that Shaw that came to America stayed and fought. It's those brothers and their descendants that I"m looking for info on. I'm sure my aunt had it in her file cabinet, and her daughter just has to find the time to locate it. I just wish that when she was doing all this research I wasn't so young and into everything else. I found it interesting ( I think I was about 12 or so) but so was baseball, boys, track, boys, lol I just wish I had donated more time to listening and studying our family history then. 3. Charles I is awfully early for American families to have been deported. Do you have any info on where they were deported to (this would have been about 1650)? More likely, they were involved in the Jacobite rebellions (1815 and 1845-46) and would have fought for (or against) Bonnie Prince Charley -- Charles Edward Stewart, pretender to the thone. The Shaws fought as a clan on the Jacobite side in 1815, and many were sold as indentured slaves to the new world. In 1845-46, the Shaws fought on both sides and many left soon after. 3. I am a little weak in the history of Scotland; my Beall family were deported in the late 1600's, Keziah Beall married Charles Shaw. The 1776 census of Prince Georges Co., MD show them with two sons, ages one and two. One of them was Alexander born ca1776.- Betty Bower---- Original Message ----- From: Marci <cilcia@bellsouth.net> To: <SHAW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2001 7:18 AM Subject: Re: [SHAW] Shaw families > Hi, Pauline, > > I know my aunt had researched my line back into Scotland.
