    1. Re: [SHAW] SHAWS in New Brunswick, Canada
    2. Deborah Mason
    3. Chadwick, I have also been trying to find the parents of George Shaw and Jane Lenentine listed on the Dumfries Parish 1851 census. He states he is Irish; my ancestors were from England in the 1600s, but have claimed to be Scottish. If your George is at all related to John Shaw and Mary Burrell of Wakefield (lived Abington, MA 1760s, Maugerville and Burton until c1783), I would guess it would be through their son Daniel Shaw (1765-11/12/1850)and Elizabeth Phillips, who lived in Wakefield, later Northampton. However, no one seems to know who George Shaw of Dumfries is. Daniel's dau Mary "Polly" Shaw b. 1794/95c m. Newman Raymond b. 1790/91c - possibly the name Raymond Shaw of your family, or related to these Raymonds? Newman and Polly had Elizabeth, Abijah, Harriet m. Daniel J. Shaw b. 1823/24c, David m. Elizabeth Shaw, G.(possibly George after Polly's brother b. 1802/03c) Hiram Shaw m. sisters, Caroline Shaw and Charlotte Shaw, Daniel b. 1830/31c, Samuel b. 1836c, John b.1837 m. Sophia Jane Shaw. All the Shaws are 1st to 3d cousins of Raymonds. Daniel Shaw's gr. nephew Tamberlin J. Shaw 1830-1904, s/o Ammi Shaw, m. c1858 Julia Anne Shaw 1835-1893, d/o Jonathan. They moved to Littleton, ME. Their ch. b. 1859-1879 were Alma, Orlow A., Lizzie A., Lydia, Idella, Reverdy J., Rhoda A., Martha, Joseph Allison b. 2/12/1876 m. 2/12/1907 Lillie I. Miller b. 11/17/1884 - they lived in Littleton, ME, Harriette B. Shaw. If you can rule out the above, George b. 1820/21c is pb not a descendant of John Shaw and Mary Burrell. There was a Benjamin Goudrey Tedford who married in the Shaw family above. There were 4 families of Shaw in Planters and Pioneers of Nova Scotia, who moved to N. S. mostly in the 1760s - at least one family, descendants of Moses Shaw had one or more children move to New Brunswick. 2. Bessie, Do you know what the middle initial stands for? I have been searching for any Shaw whose name was "Dwight". My grandfather, John Dwight Shaw, was born in Coventry, N.Y., Aug. 9, 1870, son of Wm. S. Shaw and Amelia E. Tracy. I have had no luck tracing this family and think that "Dwight" may be a family name. Jean Cromwell

    1. Re: [SHAW] Roger Shaw
    2. K & C Menzel
    3. Jan, This is also my line. My mother's name was SHAW, her ancestors settling in eastern New Hampshire and Massachusetts. We descended from Roger SHAW--the same one that you mentioned. You really need to get a copy of "SHAW RECORDS, a Memorial of Roger SHAW, 1594-1661" by Harriete F. Farwell. It has all of his descendents for several generations listed, with a great deal of information on some of the original immigrants. I found my line in there for 6 generations and then discovered that I was descended from 2 of his sons--Joseph and Benjamin. My gg grandmother was Sally MARDEN, married to David SHAW. They lived in Chester, New Hampshire and are buried there. Sally was the daughter of John MARDEN and Rachel SHAW (who is also a descendent of Roger SHAW). So Roger SHAW appears in my family tree at least 3 times, and I have one whole section of New England ancestors yet to research. Another place to check would be the Hampton, New Hampshire website. It has many of the SHAWs listed as original settlers to New Hampshire. Good luck and let me know if I can help you find anything more. A probable cousin, Claudia from MN ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Keim" <hankjan@mstar2.net> To: <SHAW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 2:10 PM Subject: [SHAW] Roger Shaw > Looking for information on Roger Shaw - b: 26 Aug 1594 - England - d: 29 May 1661 - New Hampshire - m: Anne.
