    3. Could you all please send in your favorite SHAW websites? Any site you believe has the most to offer SHAW researchers. I want to take the best of some of these and included them in the SHAW List taglines. You can send them to the list, or to me personally, if you prefer. Thanks! Anne ListMom2@hotmail.com

    3. Hey! Listers! Cheer for me! I finally found something! And, Rose: here's a story for you. My Grandma Shaw told me her folks were from Connecticut. Grandma died in 1948. After looking for years in Connecticut lists, I discovered the Shaw bible in my mom's back closet (in 1990). Grandma Shaw's father, grandfather, G grandfather, and GG grandfather were listed in that bible. I finally had birth dates, marriage dates, death dates, but no locations. I accidently stumbled over the GG Grandfather,Warren Shaw, in Johnstown, New York. He was born and married there. He died in Birmingham, Iowa. God knows why it was Birmingham--not I! All the other Shaws in my family lived in Trumbull County, Ohio. For the past four months I've been on the internet on four different New York lists and one Ohio list looking for Warren's parents, John and Persis Shaw. Today I traveled eighty miles to the nearest library that has pension lists. I found John Warren Shaw in Maryland! Who would ever guess! Rose, go to the census records for your 1890 family. They will give you sooooo much information about the family. If you get back to 1850, start looking through pension records. Those two sources are better than anything else for finding folks. jrpitch wrote: > A lot of you may know what area your Shaws came from and have a chance of finding your relatives going by countries, states, counties and such. 3. Susan: This might be a good idea for some of the letters of the alphabet...I am thinking specifically of "J" right now. :) I don't think we need to do it for some other letters, though. Besides the letter "J", are there any other letters that might bring on a deluge of email, so that we might want to split them up into time periods? 3. This sounds interesting ! Have you seen the book,BERNARD SHAW, bySt.John Ervine, published by William Morrow and Company, New York 1956; that gives some ancestors. We are in St.Petersburg, FL 'til mid-May. Where are you? My ancestor to Bernard was Rev. Edward CARR, born abt 1755 probably in New Ross, Co. Wexford, IR. His son Rev George Whitmore Carr married a Charlotte SHAW who was born in Kilkenney. The information I got from this book gives GBS (1856 - 1950) ; born in Dublin, married Charlotte Francis Payne-Townshend. His sisters were Lucy, born March 26, 1853 and Agnes, born 1855. Do you want info between GBS and Rev Edward Carr? I know I am a VERY distant relation, but it is interesting anyway. You can e-mail me personally at pmcdonald@acun.com . ----- Original Message ----- From: <Seaeyemar@aol.com> To: <SHAW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2001 8:26 AM Subject: [SHAW] To Patricia in FL re: GBS > Patricia: > > I saw your post to Housebound!!!!!!! and you mentioned you were related to > George Bernard Shaw, and I am too. 3. There has been some 'chit-chat' making it's way to the list recently. Please, folks, let's keep the list genealogy related to the SHAW's. This is a very large list, and most folks just don't have time nor the inclination to read the few more personal messages that are being posted. They are here solely for the genealogy information. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Anne List Administrator

    3. Oh, but Polly! Please understand the degree of my desperation in finding that I am not descended from Abraham and John and Persis of olden days. My John and Persis were in New York a hundred or so years later--the Bible tells me so! And I've found nothing else in 40 years! Now that the internet is here, I have hope again! Please don't encourage the group to sway the other way. I see this "alphabet soup" as a new opportunity for me! Just out of curiosity: why are you still interested in the SHAW-L site if you already have documented all the Shaws in your line? Polly Shaw wrote: > Just my two cent's worth. 1. [SHAW] The Elusive Ancestor
    2. I thought I would share this with you: I am looking for Anthony Shaw b. 1805 Blenheim, Schoharie Co. New York. The Elusive Ancestor I went searching for an ancestor. I cannot find him still. He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned. He mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame. And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe. They should be upon some list of passengers to U.S.A., but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So, I play genasolitaire to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts. To top it off this ancestor, who caused me many groans, Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES. By Merrell Kenworthy Kind regards, Eleanor
