Hello Shaw family listers. You know when we have family that comes from say Ireland. Our first thought is they are Irish. But thats wrong!! You see my gggrandfather and family came to America from Ireland. But left England to go to Ireland. Glad i knew my Shaws were English or i may have searched Ireland. Then had some one found my actual family i would have denied them because mine came from Ireland. Making them Irish. So a lot of twists and turns but families moved back then just like they do today. Good luck. Viola.
Dale and Lillian: Both of you are looking in the same area (PA) where Samuel Shaw settled. What little I know is the following: Samuel Shaw brought a certificate from the Society of Friends in Lisburn, Ireland in 1729 (Immigration of the Irish Quakers by Albert Cook Myers). Per "Early Families of Upper Bucks County" he was born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1709-10. He married Mary Nixon in 1737.........they lived in Berks co before moving to Richland (Bucks co.). Children were Hannah (m. Hicks), Mary (m. Miller), John (m. Phoebe), Moses (m. Carr), Joseph (m. Griffith), Samuel (m. Rea), and William (m. Carr). My line then continues with Joseph and Rachel Griffith Shaw. Their children were: George, b 1768, Samuel, Ann, David (Lillian: I wish this might be your Ann, but I think she would have been born too early). There are several Ann, Mary ANN, Anna Shaws listed, but none with a birthdate close to 1805. The hint about Samuel's parent being name John and Elizabeth comes from notes his ggrandson made while preparing to write a family history (the history to my knowledge never got finished).........from this tidbit, I am looking for them in Irish Quaker records.......... Dale, I think we tried to match these families once before............if I find a shred of evidence of a connection, I'll let you know. I suspician the English link because the Society of Friends "religion" came to Ireland in the mid 1600s and the Lisburn (part in Antrim, part in Down) area was heavy with English settlers. Dear Mary, I think I recieved an e-mail from you by mistake. It stated about liking the idea and any new possibilities. I just joined the list today and haven't gotten a chance to post anything yet. But, if it was a good one I hope you like it. :-) LOL! Didn't see this posted so will forward directly to the list: ----- Original Message ----- Shaws researching roots in Canada and New York should see the Lanark County, Ontario, site:: http://www.rootsweb.com/~onlanark/ Scroll down and look at "Unknown Shaw family pictures"; scroll further to the "Do you know these people" headed by Shaw family and on the way you might be interested in the Shaw/Corbett data. These people are descendants of John Shaw and Ann Rogerson, who came to St. Andrews, Canada ca 1829. They had 13 children who spread out to the Smiths Falls, Lanark County, Ontario area and the Watertown, Jefferson County, New York, area. . There was movement west from there to South Dakota, Kansas...you name it. Descendants of John and Ann have had wonderful success finding others through the Shaw list. We would love to find more. Ruth (Shaw) Kern
I like the idea very much. Any new possibilities. Mary
Posted on: Shaw Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Shaw/10262 Surname: Shaw ------------------------- Does anyone have this person in your lineage? John Shaw was in the 1790 census for Pomonkey, Charles County, Maryland. John Warren Shaw, b. 1759, also of Charles County, was asking for a Revolutionary War Pension in 1836 (age 77 years). He had been in the war 2 years, and his service was at Cedar Point, MD under Captain Johathan Yates.

I am still looking for Ann Shaw b. 12 April 1805 probably in Indiana Co., PA She married Henry Miller in1824. I have not found her parents. Anyone recognize any of the above. Thank you Lillian LSchiendel@aol.com

Anne, When I hit my reply button, I don't get the Shaw-L@rootsweb.com address, I get your name, when I look at the info on your name (It just says Anne) I get your ListMom2 account info. I'm sure with so many posts, rootsweb gets a bit overwhelmed (I get over 200 a day from the lists I'm on!) Thanks for the input, I'll just keep checking. I hope they get it fixed, since some of the info I send to a specific person just might be another person's brick-wall breaker! Hope your Easter was wonderful! Thanks again! Hi Anne I liked the idea of the Alphabet too, but I think like the one lady that you should include a date ie: 1600 - 1700, etc. It would narrow down the responses to a few at a time. Making it easier to read thru them and concentrate on the information. Adding a state on top of that would narrow down the possibilities even more. Just a thought!! Peggy in OH PS Glad that I read this mornings posts, I did not know that some of the posts could get lost. So I sent this one again.!!!!
Marcy: No...actually when you reply to my posts on the list, the default is set to send to the list. I haven't been getting your emails either. I don't know what is happening to some of the posts, but suffice to say that rootsweb is huge, and it wouldn't be hard to imagine that it messes up sometimes. Also, sometimes when you send email to the list, it just somehow gets lost out there in cyberspace before it ever reaches the rootsweb mail servers. (kind of like the post office, huh?:) Please, if you don't see your email post to the list within a reasonable time, and you are receiving other email from the SHAW list, send your post again. NO ONE reads the email before it posts to the list and stops them from posting! Some of my own emails have also failed to post, so I have had to send them again. It seems to me that this problem has been more prevalent since rootsweb upgraded all it's servers and it's entire website. Just be persistent! --WebTV-Mail-16130-940 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Marci.. My SHAWs were in Morgan Co, GA from, at least, 1820 to 1850. After 1850, they were in Benton/Calhoun Co, AL. Around 1880, my line moved to N. E. Texas. (Upshur/Hunt Co's) The names were: James SHAW, b. ca. 1790/1800 in (?). He m. Roda FARRAR on 1 MAR, 1820 in Madison, Morgan Co., GA. They were living with her parents in the 1820 census. 1830 census, James and Roda were in DeKalb Co., GA, with ch: William, b. ca.1827 & James, b. ca. 1829, both in GA. 1840, can't find family in any census. 1850, I find Roda and children, no James, in Benton (later Calhoun Co.) AL. If James SHAW was b. in GA, I can find only two (2) marriages prior to his assumed 1800 birthdate: James SHAW/Sarah TILLERY, m. 14 FEB, 1792, Wilkes Co., GA and William SHAW/ Zilla BURKE, m. 10 JUN,1799, Richmond Co., GA. ("Colonial Georgia Marriage Records from 1760-1810", by Frances T. Ingmire, Pub. by Barnette's Family Tree Book Co, Houston, TX) Peripherally, Kay Bradley, a SHAW researcher in TX, shared this with me in 1997: William SHAW (who I suspect was James' father) was m. 4 OCT, 1821 in Clarke Co., GA, to Sarah HARPER, who had been m. 2x prior to this marriage. Sarah was b. ca. 1771 to George HARPER/Martha (?), in Clarke Co., GA. William's d.o.b. can logically be assumed to be 1770 +/-. The names William and James keep cropping up in nearly every generation of SHAW men. Hope this helps! Happy Easter from...
