Hi, listmembers... Anne, our friendy :-) "list-Mom", has graciously allowed me one opportunity to find a new home for a wonderfully detailed "SHAW" research book. I bought it early in my research, thinking it was my SHAW line; it wasn't. So, rather than just take up space on my bulging bookshelves, I'd like to offer this book for sale to the room. The book is "The SHAWs: 1760-1888". It covers Osmond Broad SHAW, Simeon Aykroyd SHAW, Edmund SHAW and their families. The author is James L. Bradley. There are many pictures of family members (a handsome lot!) and copies of wills, census results and more. The book is full of maps, charts and incredibly detailed family group sheets. I'll even include a personal, signed letter from the author to me about this book. Osmond Broad SHAW m. Eliza G. WILDING, both being from Staffordshire, England. The families eventually became residents of Utah and Idaho. The price is $25.00, which includes 1st class postage and handling. If interested, PLEASE reply to me personally and not to the list. I only have 1 copy, so...let me know. :-) Thanks to Anne for this one-time request! Best from... Dale SHAW rarecoins1@webtv.net
I recently sent a letter to the list about my three A. Shaws, Alexander, Alice and Anne. When I got a copy of it, the return address indicated that the letter had been sent by Domhnall Shaw O'Seaghdha. Thinking that perhaps I'd sent my letter to Domhnall instead of the list, I checked my "sent" file, but no, I'd sent it to Shaw-L@rootsweb.com. So does anybody know what happened? Why is Domhnall's name listed as the sender, instead of me? Bobbalee
Do you have info (deeds, wills) on any other 19th century Shaw's in N.C. I'm trying to trace those in Halifax Co. , and to a lesser extent Warren Co. Names such as Jesse L. Shaw, and any planter Shaw's in Halifax Co (Littleton, Roanoke Rapids, et al) Thank you B. Bayne -- This is information on my Aaron Shaw, grandson of Benjamin and Rhoda Shaw,of Guilford county, NC, this was a quaker family, that immigrated to Indiana. I am trying to link my Shaws to Wilbur Shaw of Indianapolis 500 fame, there were alot of ties to the racetrack in family stories. I have three A. Shaws in my data bank: Alexander, born 1913 in Colorado to Jabez Shaw and Mary Bernard. Spouse was Ona Snyder. I have no information about any children born to this marriage. Alice, born 1901 in Aguilar, Colorado to Jabez Shaw and Mary Bernard. Spouses were Dick Williams and James Barclay. Children to Williams were Charles and Richard. Children to Barlcay were (I kid you not) Tom, Dick and Harry. Anne, born 5 December 1855 in Peoria County, Illinois to Jabez Shaw and Mary Noden. Spouse was Tom Sherratt. Children: Mary, Maude, Jess, Fannie, Hohn, Lindsey, Mabel, Jim and Charlotte. Bobbalee

Hi Rose, You are most welcome. I have tried my best to link my Anthony Shaw b. Blenheim Schoharie Co... NY in 1805 to this family. I know his father's name was John. I have the will of Anthony Shaw IV and John is listed in it. However, people who have typed this will in the past left John's name out of it and everyone is copying that incorrect will. You may be interested in the following which I copied from a family history by Anna Shaw Dumford "SHAW FAMILY". I think I copied it from a book when I was in Salt Lake City but I think it is on microfilm also. It is a typed genealogy which was microfilmed by the Church Nov 18, 1985. "Anthony Shaw, son of Anthony and Susannah Remington Shaw, was a soldier of War of 1812, for which service his widow received in the year of 1850, September 20, - 40 acres of bounty land and March 1855, she received 120 acres more. (This from Archives of Bounty Land, Washington, D.C.) "He entered the service at Salt Licks (Adams Co. and Brown Co.). The Salt Licks were salt wells where the pioneer ancestors and Indians obtained their salt. Anthony's service record was September 2, 1812 to November 19, 1812. He was a private under Abraham Shepherd's Company, Col. Stafford Reg. of Ohio Military. "Anthony Shaw married Miss Sarah Niles, (born in Rhode Island) August 3, 1806, at Stephentown, New York. Later he migrated to Ohio with two small children in 1810; crossed to Pittsburgh, PA, by horsedrawn wagons and boarded the flat boats to Ripley, Ohio." Rose, there is more in this copied from Beer's (Baer"s) Brown County History of 1883 page 660. You probably have this, if not I'll type it for you. I have the ancestors of your Anthony Shaw if you so desire. Hope this helps. Eleanor from California
Looking for mother of Abel Shaw. Abel was born August 4, 1853 in Centerville, Appanoose Co. Iowa. In 1850 census, his father, Sampson W. Shaw was living in Dodge/Putnam Co., Missouri (18yrs of age) and then have record of Sampson marrying Ruth Stevens Ayers in 1855 (have copy of the certificate, but possibly the date is when the judge recorded the marriage). Has anyone seen any record that Sampson Shaw in Dodge/Putnam Co., Missouri might have wed, moved to Appanoose Co., Iowa, had child (ABEL), wife died, then he remarried to Ruthe Ayers? Any help appreciated. Susan (Shaw) Gardner (Washington State)

My grandfather's brother was Albert W. SHAW, b. 1867, in Rochester, Minnesota and died April 21, 1943, but I don't know where. I suspect he may have died somewhere in Ohio, but do not know where. He had one daughter, Helen Grace SHAW, m. to Clarence KARK of Nevada, Ohio. There were no descendents, but I would be interested to know any more information about him, as I am attempting to find out his mother's maiden name (my g grandmother). Her name would have been Nellie or Helen _______ SHAW, b. aprox. 1840-45 in New York state. At one time Nellie was a music teacher in the Mansfield, Ohio area. Any information on this family would be welcome. Claudia from MN
Has anyone EVER heard of this name? Almurn Shaw was in the Jefferson Co Alabama area c1825. Land records suggest that he may have been related to James, John, and William Shaw of that area. Any leads appreciated. Thanks, Deborah

My g-g-g grandfaather was born Oct. 7, 1810 in either Cauyga or Wayne County, New York, and moved at about age 21 to Geauga County, Ohio. His name was Asa Lonson Shaw, but he also went by Lanson and Alanson Shaw. Since he purchased land immediately upon his arrival in Geauga County, he apparently came from an affluent family. He married Mary Stafford, who was born in Manchester, New York. She was from a Quaker family. Lanson Shaw, family tradition says, was active in the Underground Railroad. Mary died in 1842, and he married Elizabeth Ober. The children of Asa Lonson and Mary were Harriet, Elias, Israel, John, and Mary. Children of Elizabeth Ober and Asa Lonson were Julia and Zacharia. I would like to learn something of his family of origin, but he has been my stone wall! >

Hi Rose, I do not have anything on Anthony Shaw born 1633 in Halifax, but I do have ancestors of Anthony Shaw and Sarah Niles. I am trying to connect with this family so have quite a few names and dates on the Anthony Shaw who married Alice Stonard. I have his father as John Shaw b. abt 1600 Halifax, Yorkshire England but have no documentation except what was emailed to me. Listed are all of the siblings of your Huldah Shaw. Again, this is not my Anthony Shaw family as yet. Hopefully I will find my missing link but in the meantime, I am willing to share what I have acquired. Your Anthony Shaw's father was Anthony Shaw b. 29 Jan 1750 in Newport Rhode Island d. 07 Aug 1820 in Stephentown NY. This Anthony Shaw married Susannah Remington. I am trying to tie my Anthony Shaw into John Shaw b. November 23 1779 and who died March 18, 1813. This John would be the brother of your Anthony Shaw. You may already have all of this information, but I felt I should respond. Eleanor
