    3. http://www.htcomp.net/jcgs/vb/HTML/VB.htm The History of Johnson County and Surrounding Area by Viola Block - 1970 http://htcomp.net/jcgs/vb/html/vb1.htm Cleburne had three hangings of men named John. On June 26, 1896 on the north side of Harrell St. just west of the Buffalo Creek bridge a man named John Wilkins was hanged for the supposed killing of Grince Taylor, who lived near Grandview. This hanging drew a crowd of 10,000 people. John W. Renfro was hanged for the murder of M. M. Williams, prominent Egan farmer. Williams was shot five times in rapid succession at the south door of the courthouse in Cleburne in 1899. The killing grew out of a case in the county court. Renfro had been charged with slandering Williams' daughter. Both parties were on their way to attend the trial when the shooting occurred. A lynching was feared, but prevented. John Shaw was hanged for the murder of Tom Crane in 1898. A Negro accomplice, Lee Wilson, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Shaw escaped from prison once, but was recaptured and hanged. The site of Joseph Shaw's log cabin was later Compton's drug store. Joe Shaw also operated the Cleburne House, established by Mrs. Wren, which had a livery stable behind it, run by Fowler & Lister. The Cleburne House had many proprietors. From a log cabin it became a three-story brick. T. Lowrence, Cleburne jeweler, was a long time resident of the Cleburne House, moving here in 1875. Rev. Joshua Cook (Boone), famous hunter and writer, moved into the Cleburne House in 1889.

    3. Discussion of the TROJ_BADTRANS.A virus continues on several lists. Without permission and with profuse apologies for the off-topic message, I submit the following in the hopes of putting this one to bed and maybe preventing these problems in the future. Also, I am submitting this to several Lists so you may well get more than one copy. Again, my apologies - hopefully the results will outweigh the offense. IF YOU MUST RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE, DO IT TO ME PRIVATELY AT PRSMITH@PDQ.NET OR TO THE LISTOWNER - NOT TO THE LIST! First, you DID NOT and CAN NOT get infected by a virus, worm, trojan or any other nasty via this or any other list. It only APPEARED to come from the list - it's a tricky virus. So you got infected? It's a shame you attempted to open an attachment when you weren't absolutely certain of the contents. This virus could easily have overwritten your fat tables and boot sector rendering your hard drive useless. In that light, the virus author has done you a favor. There are two lessons to be learned here: First, your ONLY certain defense is regular, reliable backups (including off-site in case of fire.) Second, your virus protection program is only good against KNOWN viruses. Neither Norton or McAfee had anything on this virus for two days AFTER I became aware of it. Also, these programs will do absolutely no good unless you have the latest .dat files. Have you updated them today? Third, you can not trust ANY attachment regardless of the source UNLESS the source has verified the content and purpose of the attachment to your satisfaction. Then it's safe to open the attachment ONLY if you have successfully completed lesson one. Info and cleanup instructions for the TROJ_BADTRANS.A virus can be found at http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99069& McAfee, Norton and others maintain web sites where you can read about new viruses - book mark one or more of them for quick reference if need be. Here are some URLs: http://vil.mcafee.com/default.asp? http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html If you are/were infected, forward this info to anyone in your address book who might have gotten an infected email from "you" sent by the virus. Even if you weren't infected, there are some valuable lessons to be learned from this virus. I hope my post has helped a bit and, again, I apologize for the off-topic post. 1. [SHAW] Aron Shaw (aka Wiley Shaw)
    2. Bob Shaw
    3. My brick wall has been ARON (yes, spelled with one R) Shaw. Family states that his name was Aron, and this name and spelling was passed on to my grandfather George Aron Shaw. However, census and other records refer to him as Wiley Shaw, using the four sons and location as proof that this was our man. Aron/Wiley had four sons - Willis Riley Shaw (b 1860), John, Robert (b 1862), and George. His wife's name was Phoebe or Phebe, last name unknown. Wiley also shows in the Cumberland County, Illinois, 1860 census. Toledo, IL seemed to end up as a home base. Other info shows the family in Coles County (Charleston, IL). One set of records shows him born in Illinois, another in Pennsylvania. The obituary for his son Willis (d 1933) states "Mr. Shaw was born June 17, 1860, in Charleston, Ill. His parents died when he was a small boy and he was left to make his own way." The obituary for Robert Shaw (d 1945) states "Robert Shaw, son of Wiley and Phoebe Shaw, was born in Crawford County, Illinois on October 16, 1862 and departed this life on September 25, 1945, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 10 days." Any help? Bob Shaw
