    3. I guess I have everything messed up. I was given some papers and they have Abraham Shaw b.1763 in York married Mary? children Marion,John,Mary, Samuel,Betsey, Abraham,Summer,Mercy,Joseph and Joanna. 2nd Gen. Samuel b. 1 June 1791 m. Thankful? children Mercy,Agnes, Thankful,Samuel,Orin,Andrew,Mary, Albian. Some of our dates seem to be different too. So I probably have 2 families mixed up. Thanks very much for pointing that out to me. I would love to have whatever information you have to share. Could that be the Hamilton that is in NY? I am very curious about the first marriage record that reports an A.E. SHAW as being a witness. This is the first SHAW/STEWART connection I have run into in the right time frame. I am looking for the identity of RJ STEWART of Oneida, NY who I believe had a daughter (or possibly granddaughter) named Hattie. Hattie married an Artemus HATCH in Oneida in 1882. In 1886, Artemus ran off with a Lydia SHAW. I have reason to believe that both the SHAW and STEWART families I am looking for went back and forth between NY and Canada, as so many other families of that time frame did. I am looking for the identities of both the SHAW's and the STEWART's. Thanks for any possible help! I have been searching for Lydia for over 10 years, and have been unable to find out anything about her at all. 3. From what I have read about the history of Ireland Mike is correct about the Scots in Ireland. Also, during the plantation of Ireland in the 1600's (the British planted people in Ireland, not vegetation!) many people from England were placed in northern Ireland to have a stronger presence there to better gain control of the Island. Many Shaws from England were included. The best clue I have found is that the Scottish settlers were Presbyterian. My Shaws were Anclican, Church of England and kept that religion when they went to Canada in 1820. They apparently were always loyal to the crown as they always supported Gr Britain, even in the 1837-1838 uprising. Would be interested in any other ideas on this subject. I wasn't aware of English "passing through" Ireland, but certainly many Scots did. My dictionary says: Scotch-I·rish (skŒch"º"r¹sh) n. 1. The people of Scotland who settled in northern Ireland or their descendants, especially those who emigrated to America. --Scotch-I·rish adj. Of or relating to the Scotch-Irish. QUOTE OF THE DAY "Although we modern persons tend to take our electric lights, radios, mixers, etc., for granted, hundreds of years ago people did not have any of these things, which is just as well because there was no place to plug them in. Then along came the first Electrical Pioneer, Benjamin Franklin, who flew a kite in a lighting storm and received a serious electrical shock. This proved that lighting was powered by the same force as carpets, but it also damaged Franklin's brain so severely that he started speaking only in incomprehensible maxims, such as 'A penny saved is a penny earned.' Eventually he had to be given a job running the post office." --Dave Barry ----- Original Message ----- From: Viola Seward <olla@i29.net> To: <SHAW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 9:12 AM Subject: [SHAW] Shaw Families From Different Countries!!! > Hello Shaw family listers. 2. Trying to locate B. D. Shaw married Sophia Hammond. Their son, William S. Shaw, b April 10, 1843, d June 11, 1902 in Afton, New York Wm. S. Shaw m Amelia E. Tracy, probably sometime in the 1860's. They had 2 children: John Dwight Shaw, b Aug. 9, 1870, Coventry, N.Y. d April 29, 1933, Afton, N.Y. Lottie Amelia Shaw, b Sept. 27, 1891, Afton, N.Y. d in 1970's (?) It is possible that B. D. Shaw's middle name was Dwight. Jean Cromwell

    2. Anne
    3. I do not want any discussion of this on the list, but I want to warn you all not to open any email from Domhnall Shaw o'Seaghdha. I have written to him privately because apparently he has been hit with a virus, and it is sending out emails to list members, but NOT through the list. Repeat, NOT THROUGH THE SHAW List!! I am unsubscribing him until his situation is resolved. Any comments or questions, PLEASE send to me privately and NOT to the list! Anne
