I am looking for information on my GGGrandfather, John Shaw. I have his immigration info. He came to the U.S. from 'Great Britain' (which covers a lot of territory), leaving out of LIverpool on the ship Alfred. He arrived in NY on June 11, 1838. The rest of what I know is that he was a shoemaker and married a woman named Amy Cook. The next I know if him he was living in far Southwest Missouri with his daughter (my great-grandmother) Rachel Shaw Cole, who was born in Cincinnati in the mid 1850's. Family legend holds that he left Liverpool in a hurry after beating some fellow senseless, not sticking around to see if the fellow lived or died. I'm sure he was not the only young man ever to have left Liverpool a jump ahead of the constabulary, but I really would like to know where he came from and what brought him to Cincinatti. Is there anyone else on the list researching this individual? Kate Payne
Researching Daniel Shaw, was in Mercer Co. KY in 1800 (Tax List) along with a Thomas Shaw and William Shaw. Trying to find some relationship. Daniel died 1820) Daniel's second wife was Elizabeth (Betsy) Pipes. Children by unknown first wife was Zachary (1784-1820) Elizabeth (1788-) Wilie (1793-) Theophilus (1795-1873) Leban or Seburn (1795-) and Simon (1800-1839). Daniels children by Elizabeth Pipes were: Felicia Ann (1815-) and James Perry Shaw (1819-1899). Have no clue where Daniel was before he appeared in Mercer Co. KY. Any ideas? Thanks Susan (Shaw) Gardner

Hi! I'm new to the list and thought I'd post my Shaw's. I have tried to find any further info on this family for over twenty years. I can find lots on all my other lines but this family has eluded me. Listed in my Grandfather's bible: James Shaw married Isabell and Harriett Isabell was born to them in 1952 in Missouri. I found a birth record in Morgan Co. Missouri Listing this family and a baby daughter born 4 Nov 1853. Harriet married Thomas Pruet in St Clair Co, MO In 29 Nov 1871. Harriet died In 29 Nov 1871 and is buried in Pitcher Oklahoma. If anyone knows anything about her parents I would be very grateful! Cherlynn

My Shaw information is limited to GA, AL and AR. I am sure that there are more states involved, it is just very difficult to dig Shaws out of the woods. The only knowledge I have of my second great-grandmother Mary Shaw comes from the back of a photo in our family album. It tells me she was born in Lancashire, England on May 23, 1816 and died in 1889 in Montreal, Canada. As I understand it, she spent some time in the United States, but I don't know where. I think her daughter, Frances Helen Arless, met my great-grandfather, Warren Herschel Loss, in Rochester, New York where he lived most of his life. I have also been told she's buried in St. James church yard in Montreal, but I have little or no knowledge of Montreal and don't know how to find the church. The verso of her husband's photograph (James Arless) says he died in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1894 while visiting his sister. I have not yet been able to verify that information because Indiana requires a month and year to obtain a death certificate. I'm stumped. Any information you might have to help me locate more information about any members of this family would be very helpful. Thank you, MA

This is very intresting Micheaux/Mushaw. My figuring that David Mushaw m. Charity Jent was too far away from the other Shaws 1800 cencus to be kin to them. David Mushaw/Shaw went to Ky. He had son William who had son John W. b. 1841. They all lived Puncheon Dist Allen Co. Ky. before going to Tn. I found a John W. Shaw 1860 age 27 in Fountian Run Dist. Do you know who this John belongs to? Will you please comment of these two different Shaw's in 2 different dist. of Allen Co. Ky.? Also please comment on Micheaux, different spellings? I believe you could be correct on these Shaw/Mushaw. Thanks, Alfa [email protected] wrote: I have been researching my maiden surname of Shaw for about 50 years, and I have never seen this name written as Mushaw. My reason for suspecting the Shaw tie to Mushaw is the location in Wake County, NC at that time. I do no work on Michaux or Micheaux, but am aware of the Shaws of North Carolina. The Ralph W. Shaw from Springfield MO you are corresponding with, do you know if he is Out of the Shaw's of Dade County MO? The Dade Co. Shaw's are my line. Alfa, I am Geordie Shaw, genealogist for Clan Shaw Society. I have, in my files, a letter from a Ralph W. Shaw of Springfield, Mo. dated November 14, 1985 seeking information about the Mushaws, particularly, David, and a like phone call from Christen Santiago, of Kentucky. This David Shaw apparently changed his name from Mushaw to Shaw. Several years ago, I signed up to membership, two Meshaws from the Cape Fear area of NC, under the assumption that Meshaw was a shortened McShaw, or MacShaw. I would think that the same thinking would hold for Mushaw.
