Hello, I was wondering if you have any additional info whatsoever re: 2 John Shaw b: 1778 in Dutchess Co., New York ............ +Sarah Wheaton b: 1787 My Shaw ancestor was John Shaw b.c1791 (unsure where this birth estimate came from) who appeared in Halifax, Nova Scotia bef Sept 1815 as a widow and married Elizabeth (Betsy) Crowell of Lawrencetown, NS. He died bef 1866 in Lawrencetown. I have found a rather obscure reference to him being a Loyalist but have been unable to trace him. I noticed that many of the siblings of your John Shaw b.1778 ended up in New Brunswick and coming from New York could quite possibly have been Loyalists themselves. Having no firm birthdate for my own John Shaw, it appears to me that your John Shaw is of the right timeframe and could be a likely lead. I was hoping you would have some other bit of information that could either eliminate the possibility of them being the same man, or something else that might substantiate it (ie marriage date of John and Sarah?). Susan, I think the following may be your James Perry Shaw in Missouri: SHAW, JAMES P (1860 U.S. Census) MISSOURI , SULLIVAN, MILAN P O Age: 38, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MO Series: M653 Roll: 658 Page: 840 Dwelling: 1516/Household: 1516 James P. Shaw age 38, [has him marked as 'female'], b. MO Marilda, age 38, b. MO George, age 14, b. MO Eliza J., age 12, b. MO John W., age 10, b. MO Although James & family are listed as born in Missouri, most of the information agrees with your listing for this family. The wife's name is different, and may be a misspelling of Elmira, but the children's names are the same. Some of the information may be a census taker's error. They are living next door to a William J. Leslie and wife Malinda. William was born in Missouri, but his wife, Malinda, was born in Kentucky. It's possible Malinda may be a sister or other relative of either James Perry Shaw or his wife, Elmira. Hope this helps! Could you give me just a little more info on your Shaws that went to Texas? The ones that I have a little info on that migrated that way: Seburn Shaw born abt 1797 in KY, wed Malinda Ellen Hail. They went from (Simpson County, KY to Hancock County, Illinois (1850 Census). There is a Land Patent for Seborn H. Shaw in Leon County, Texas in 1859. In 1860, Malinda and 1 daughter and 1 son (David W. born abt 1855) was in Collin County, Texas. Also in Collin County, TX 1870 & 1880 (although Malinda was not alive in 1880). Seburn's father was Daniel Shaw of Mercer County, KY The other Shaws that I a little info on Thomas Harbison Shaw (1821-) who wed Elizabeth Varnetty Motlow. He died in Austin, Texas. He had brothers: John Addison Shaw, William Roundtree Shaw, Thomas Jefferson Shaw, Benjamin Shaw, Thomas Shaw, Wade M. Shaw & Henry Shaw (and of course there were several sisters). I don't have any information on the children of Thomas Harbison Shaw nor any info on his brothers children. Susan Shaw-Gardner [email protected]

Please let me join in. I have a ROBERT SHAW, JOHN SHAW, and a JOEL SHAW in Randolph Co., Mo. during the years 1800 through 1900. I think these families came to Mo. from KY. or VA, but not for sure. I am trying to find the parents of Robert Shaw, b. 1800 VA., died 1886 Randolph Co. Missouri. Bill Ramsey
Did any of your Shaw family ever live in NC? Robert Shaw
How do I contact the Shaw List (Rootsweb) manager?
I am not sure if any of my Shaw's were in North Carolina...I see records of Shaw's in Wake County, but have not been able to connect up. At one time, I was looking for James' older 1/2 brother, Zachary, and thought he might have went to NC, but if my Zachary was in NC, he died before 1825. (In an indenture made 19th day of Sept 1825, of Daniel Shaw, it mentioned ..."the heirs of Zachary (or Zachariah...it was at very edge of paper) Shaw, Dec..." On following the lines of the children of Daniel Shaw of Mercer County, KY, I find most of the children went to Boone County, Putnam County, Missouri. A few stayed in Kentucky, in Simpson County, Marion County & Boyle County. And a few headed off to Texas !! Then I find alot went West around 1865 to Oregon, then around 1880's went to California and Washington. On a side note, am keeping track of the William Shaw's (& Ann Porter Harbison) family, which looks like it went from KY to Tennessee and the family of Thomas Shaw (& Catherine Ripperdan), which were from Mercer County, KY also. I am thinking that William, Thomas and Daniel Shaw might be related. Susan Shaw Gardner
James Perry Shaw is hiding from me somewhere in 1860! I cannot find him anywhere!!! Anybody have any ideas...
