    3. Hello Shaw list, I'm seeking to correspond with anyone connected to the following Shaw family. Harry/Henry/Harris Shaw was b. Austria abt 1872, went to Middlesex, London area & married Deborah Jacobs 1893 (her surname could also be known as Evans) and it is known that son Sydney was in Los Angeles, CA by at least 1935/36. Known siblings for Sydney are Issac and Miriam. The following is what I know about this family. Descendants of Harry SHAW Harry SHAW (b.Abt 1872-Austria) sp: Deborah JACOBS (b.Abt 1869-Middlesex,London,England;m.22 Oct 1893) Isaac SHAW (b.Abt 1895-Whitechapel,Middlesex,England) Miriam SHAW (b.18 Dec 1900-Fulham (Hammersmith),Middlesex,England) Sydney Anthony SHAW (b.25 Apr 1904-Fulham,Middlesex,London,England;d.31 Oct 1951-Huntington Park,(Los Angeles) Ca) sp: Mary Theresa\Therese GALLAGHER (b.12 Apr 1915-Cleveland,Oh;m.23 Aug 1941;d.28 Apr 1990-EM,(Los Angeles) Ca) George Michael SHAW (b.25 Feb 1943-Los Angeles,(Los Angeles) Ca;d.3 Dec 1992-San Bernardino,Ca) Christopher David SHAW (living-Los Angeles,Ca) Luana

    3. It is a bit late to reply to this, but I can't ignore it. Genealogy columns have been warning people about the one in Bath, Ohio for years. (I suspect, but do not know that the one in Denver is very similar.) They publish a book about 3 - 6 times a year on a single surname. It typically includes a general description of the name, a picture of a "Family Coat of Arms" (see below), a brief biography of a few people with the surname, and (the bulk of the book) the telephone listings of everyone of the surname they can locate. For most of us, it is a rip-off. But -- and this is a matter of expectations -- a friend of mine ordered the book for his surname and was very pleased with what he received. His was a very "rare" surname and he had never determined from what part of Italy it came, and using the telephone book listings, he located several relatives. So, you can never tell. IMHO, Shaw is is a common name and there is so much information available on the 'net and elsewhere, it would be a total waste of money for anyone with access to boards such as this to buy such a book. A note on "Family" Coats of Arms: In most, if not all, nations, coats of arms were issued to single individuals -- not families. If you lived in one of those nations, you could be prosecuted for displaying it as your own. Of course, in America, every person has the right to bear arms and does not need such a symbol of his right to do so. And, in fact, I have a copy of the Scots "Clansmans' Badge" (derived from the arms of the chief) hanging on my wall. In addition, I have copyrighted my own arms "just for the heck of it." QUOTE OF THE DAY Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. --Thomas Paine ----- Original Message ----- From: "scotsami" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 11, 2005 5:57 PM Subject: Re: [SHAW] Possible family book scam > List, > In the past there have been offers of a book listing your "Shaw > relatives. 3. List, In the past there have been offers of a book listing your "Shaw relatives. My cousin bought one about ten years ago out of Ohio. It had listings of Shaws, but no relationships or genealogies. With the exception of Zip Code, the phone book has as much data. There are organizations for Shaws and other surnames that have much more value. Consider one of them. 2. I just received a notice from the "PUTMAN FAMILY YEARBOOK." This group is better known by "MORPHCORP, LLC PUBLISHERS." They are located in Denver, CO. and offer a newly revised version of the PUTMAN FAMILY YEARBOOK, for the price of $39.85. At first I thought about ordering a copy (you can get three for $99.99 plus $5 for handling), but I decided to review the Internet first. I am very glad that I did not buy one. Keep in mind, I have not seen a copy of this book and have no idea of it's contents. And I am not going to say anything about the books contents. But if you were to review the files posted on the Internet (go to google.com and enter 'morphcorp') you might be surprised. In the many articles that I reviewed I did not find a single positive statement about this group. I urge you all to carefully reviewing my findings and make an intelligent decision about this organization

    2. JULIAN BUCK
    3. Hi, Just starting to track my family tree. My grandfather was Ronald Wesley Shaw of Nottingham, England, brother Roy born early 1900's. Ronald married Annie May Shaw (maiden name Mercer) and they had 3 or 4 daughters - and this is where it gets interesting. My mum was born Margaret around 1935 and there was a Dorothy and Penelope shortly after. But, there's a suggestion there was an Elizabeth first of all. Just ask your mum I can hear you saying - more complicated than that ! Any help would be fantastic, thanks, Julian Buck.

My Robert Shaw, b. 1800 Va. married Paulina Noble 1832 in Howard Co.,Mo. My Robert names his first son David Alexander Shaw. David names his first son Alexander Shaw. So Alexander is a name that runs through my line. Also the name Noble. Paulina Noble was the daughter of James Noble, b. 1758 MD. My Shaw line comes out of VA., spends time in KY. and finally ends up in Missouri. Bill Ramsey ______________________________

    3. Hello Alan, well there is no doubt in my mind that your Shaws, Maggie's and mine have a connection. I have been researching my Shaw line for more than six years now, and this is the first time I have run into these names running in a family line: Robert, David and Alexander. The names that I have been running into for years now is: William, John, Joel, Charles etc. I wished someone had the means to research this Robert, David and Alexander line. I do know that my Shaws are from Scotland, but I have no idea as to when they came to America. I assume that when they did, they came to Virginia, as that is where my Robert Shaw is born in 1800. I guess all we can do is continue to watch the [email protected] and see if something shows up. Bill
