This would be a big hoot/belly laugh if it wasn't so sad. Nationality__some of us would just be thrilled to back them out of MS and Alabama! I would guess a large percentage of the folks on this list have no clue of Nationality. How many are like me hunting John SHAW or a James E. "Jim" SHAW. I can say "lets work SHAW's" cousins disappear for weeks. My daughters eyes roll into the back of her head. She ask what hundredth time will this be? Migraines develope along with tempers, including my own. :) If we ever get a break we wonder will the next court house have burned too? So first we would love to just find "Papa SHAW"!!!!!!! We are hunting James E. "Jim" SHAW b. abt 1829 Shelby County, Alabama married to Eliza Jane McELVANY b. 1862 Choctaw County MS. Thanks for the giggle. If we ever get a break it will be a "great dance"! Vickye White 3477 N. Hi all, I've been searching for a very very long time for any information on a Robert Shaw, my great great grandfather, who lived in or around Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. I do not know when or where he was born but his daughter, Mary Eliza Shaw, was born around 1866 in or around Nanaimo. Robert Shaw married a Salish native woman named Mary. Her maiden name may have been Joe. She was from the Sechelt area in B.C. Apparently, this Robert Shaw told people that he was of Hawaiian ancestry but I am not convinced of this. I have a picture of his daughter, Mary and she looks more African American to me than anything else and everybody that has seen the photo agrees. I have found out that there were alot of American slaves that went to the Nanaimo area in the mid 1800's. These people apparently were either set free or escaped and came to Canada. My theory is that he may have been one of these slaves and since slavery was a common thing back then, he didn't want anyone to know that he was "black" and so pretended to be of Hawaiian decent. There were stories of him working for the Hudson's Bay Company but I've checked, twice, with their archivist and she said there is nobody by that name or description at all in their records. There are rumours that he may have been buried on Newcastle Island, by Nanaimo, but I don't know of anyone that has been able to find his burial site. If anyone has any information on this Robert Shaw or his family, I would be ever so grateful to receive an email from you. Thanks for your time. My Shaws came from Scotland originally. Many of them were captured at the Battle of Preston and placed in prisons in England. Three brothers were shipped to Maryland and were indentured servants. One of the brothers was my ggggg grandfather. Marci Shaw Peralez

Hello. You know it would be a big plus if we all gave the nationality if we know it. So many Shaws. My first family is English but do have a Shaw on the other side who is from Scotland. Thank you. Viola.
If the list owner has no objection, I'd like to suggest that inclusion of dates in a query will greatly increase the likelihood of a response. Even a circa (c) or about (abt) date is very helpful to those who might try to determine if there could be a connection. I haven't gotten far enough into the Shaw's to know where they were originally from, I am sorry, and will save this email in case I find some info you can use. Sharon.
Hello! I just started to research my Shaw's also. I am looking for an Isaac Shaw b. bet. 1870 and 1895, in possibly Scotland. He married Janet Jack in New York, had a son John Henry who lived in New Jersey, but had a lot of family in the Baltimore, Maryland area. I have really hit a brick wall with Isaac and if these names sound familiar to anyone, I would appreciate any info. Sincerely, Peggie Shaw
