PEREZ Shaw ..I am trying to link this gentleman to our tree. I have found PEREZ Shaw/SALLY Shaw losing a son 1829 named Azro I have a SALLY Shaw living with Lemuel Shaw in 1850. We believe LEMUEL Shaw married to SUSAN B. Scott and later ADALINE? Is the father of FRANK (Francis M) Shaw b/ 1854 married ALMA Hibbard she died in 1887 leaving Frank with a family of INA b. 1878, ROB Shaw b. 1880 ORVIS Shaw b.1883 and LESTER WARREN SHAW our greatgrandfather who came to Canada and married and raised a family. I do have a very old picture of FRANK SHAW with his children probably not to long after the death of ALMA if anyone would like a copy.. Thanks for everyones time.. Diane Vancouver Island B.C.
In response to Susan Shaw Gardner's request to the list for Shaw first names beginning with P, I am asking the following question: Adamson Tannehill Shaw and wife, Frances Hampton, came to Lawrence Co., AL (now Colbert Co., AL) in l819 from the Iredell/Rowan county line. Several of their children gave their offsprings the first name of PINKNEY/PINCKNEY/or just plain PINK. To date, I have found no familial reason for their usage of this name, thus begging the assumption that these Pinkney Shaws were named in honor of the famous Charles Cotesworth Pinckney. I would like to hear from anyone who can shed light on this quandary. Many thanks. Mary
Lets hear from anyone researching Shaws whose given (first) names started with an O or P. The older, the better. Of course, all other Shaw inquiries welcome also. Keep in mind, it makes it easier if instead of hitting the "reply," just start a new email to [email protected] with YOUR "O" or "P" Shaw name in the Subject line. This has been fun...we will make it through the whole alphabet by the end of the year. I appreciate the list managers letting us do this. Susan Shaw Gardner [email protected]
I am searching for the descendents of James Shaw who served in Captain Peter Hogg's Company of Rangers in 1757. For his service, James received a warrant for land in Greenbrier County, Virginia (now WV) in 1780. I. Shaw Nelson
Would this Lemuel Shaw possibly be the brother of son of Perez Shaw, VT. Thanks Sue
I haven't been able to make the connection to Perez yet. I've lost my access to ancestryplus and hadn't finished checking things I did find Perez Shaw in the 1810 census and an Azro Shaw 5th inst (I don't know what that stands for) son of Perez and Sally Shaw. The 1830 census had Pries Shaw... The 1840 census has Peres Shaw But I have no other info There is a Sally Shaw with Lemuel in the 1850 census but the relationship is not defined. Are you researching Perez Shaw..and how would one go about finding the children of Perez and Sally.. Thanks for your time and interest. 1860 census for Barnet, Caledonia, VT shows Shaw, Lemuel 27 or 37 ---Susan 23 or 33 ---Ellen 12 ---Chas, 9 ---Francis 6 ---Morris 1 all b VT except for Morris b NH 1870 same place Shaw, Lemuel 46 b VT ---Adaline 36 b IL ---Francis H 16 b VT ---Morris N 10 b NH ---Edith B 2 b VT Scott, L.D 8 b Missouri so looks like Susan has died and Lemuel has married Adaline who first married ? Scott. Think with the big gap between Morris and Edith that Edith must be child of second wife. Also looks like Scott may not be Susan's maiden name, but the obit writer may have confused the names. Or they could be related, not that uncommon, and Scott could be correct as Susan's maiden name. If you discover the answer I would be curious to know what brings Adeline back east from IL (or north from MO) and how Scott came to be born in MO. The bizarre thing is that there is an Adeline Scott in 1860 MO born in IL age listed as 24 (sounds promising, right?) but she is still there in 1870 as well, and husband is still alive--so has to be a coincidence--guess you can not be too quick to draw a conclusion. I would think the census ages could be a little off and Susan and Adeline could be the same person (if one is the middle name, or a nickname), with L.D. Scott being a relative in HH, but for that to be the case the POB also must be in error on one or the other census, so it is a mystery. -------Original Message------- From: Diane Date: 08/07/05 15:04:49 To: [email protected] Subject: [SHAW] LEMUEL SHAW in Vermont Good afternoon. Katy Isbell, I have Shaws, but don't think they connect to yours. However the Isbell name got my attention. We have a connection to Isbells in my White line. They were in AL at the time of connection - in the late 1800 or early 1900s. Could these be in your line. Looking for information on Miles Avery Shaw, born about 1817. Married Ann Dixon. Both state on census that they were born in Pennsylvania. Location unknown. Stated on Census that both of their parents were born in Pennsylvania. Moved to Peoria, Illinois around 1840. Had three children. Lydia, Daniel and Theron Leroy Shaw, born 1844. Would like to know name of parents of Miles Avery Shaw. Also town, township and county that they called home. Any other information that pertains to them. Kay Isbell at [email protected]
One more little story, poem actually, that says a lot about keeping good records and information on your family's history, especially when it comes to keeping photos. I have a lot of pictures of early family members with nothing written on the back to identify them. So they will remain in perpetual unknown limbo until I can connect with someone who might be able to tell something about them. Don't let your family's history become "Strangers in the Box..." About their special times and lives I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time To tell who, what, or when; These faces of my heritage Would come to life again. Fellow Listers, I apologize if this is a duplicate for you. But I thought this little story sums up why we do what we do. I received it some time back and have added it to my Family Heritage scrapbook that I am working on. The author is unknown but my hat is off to him/her for putting it appropriately in words. I share it with you in case you wish to use it, too. It is pinted below my signature line. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story!" So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying, "I can't let this happen." The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish, how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that the fathers fought and some died to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. It is of equal pride and love that our mothers struggled to give us birth. Without them we could not exist, and so we love each one, as far back as we can reach. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So.we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are they and they are the sum of who we are. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take my place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and restore the memory or greet those whom we had never known before. -Author Unknown
