It looks like time to post my Sharpes again! An old family letter says that John Sharp was born in Hamburg, Germany in the year 1775. His father John was a "Hollinder" ,( which I assume is Dutch??), and his mother (name unknown) Scotch. They went to Scotland and then came to Great Barrington, Mass, where the parents died. When John was 9 he was adopted by John Vanderburg who lived in the town of Windham, Greene County, NY. (How did they connect??) John married Elizabeth Vandenburg and he died in Halcott, NY, Greene County in 1862. One of their sons, John P. Sharpe, married Rhoda Roosa and one of their sons, Delavan was born in Pennsylvania in 1852. I don't know where.. A daughter, Sarah Sharpe, born in Lexington, NY, Greene County married Richard Moore. She died in Dallas, Luzerne County, PA in 1903. They had lived earlier in Beaumont, Wyoming County, PA. Another son, Peter Sharpe born abt 1831 in Lexington, NY died in 1894 in Eldred, McKean Co., PA. He had three sons who were doctors. Dr. John H. Sharp died in Eagle, WI in 1940. Dr. Charles E. Sharp lived in Chicago, and Dr. Robert Sharp lived in Columbus, Ohio. There were also eight girls in their line. Our Sharpes also had a connection with Albany, NY. Dora Sharpe, another daughter of John and Rhoda, married Edward Gage and died in Albany in 1937. I can remember when I was in college in Albany visiting some Sharpe "cousins". My grandfather's brother, Theodore, better know as Thede, lived in Albany for quite some time. Family there is unknown. Descendents of Robert Sharpe, another son of John and Elizabeth, settled in Broome and Tioga County. Quite a patch work of information. Our family seemed to use the "e", but not everyone does. Any connections out there? Rita
