Joan, I am doing some "cleaning" here in my e-mail and stumbled upon a message from you dated 3/ll/00, (see below). My gr. gr. grandfather was John Sharp, born Shelby County, Ky, February 3, 1779. He married Elizabeth Leatherman. Their son, Henry Leatherman Sharp was born 1823, Vermillion County, Indiana. Could this John Sharp be the one your are searching for??? He married Sarah Sally HANCOCK, b. about 1799,NC, but I do not know where they were married. So far I have not been able to find a marriage record in Bedford County TN where they were living in 1850 and earlier, but perhaps they married in another Tennessee county or even in North Carolina, where Sarah Hancock's parents lived in Bute Co. NC before moving to Wilson Co. TN. In 1830 there were three William Sharp families in Bedford Co. TN, and it was through the Hancocks that I was able to discover which Wm. is in my husband's line. Of course, all these Sharp families had sons named William! William and Sarah's children were: Robert Martin Sharp who married Louisa Jacobs and moved to Missouri. William and Sarah's other children included William H, Samuel H., Elizabeth (m. John BELL), James, John Thomas, and a daughter, Ritter, who married James M. HOOVER, and possibly other offspring. I am trying to identify William's parents and the Virginia County where he was born. Possibly they went to Tennessee by way of Kentucky. Roberta [email protected]
