Does anyone have the children of John Sharp and Ann Boyd that went to Sevier County Tn.And is that John the one that was at the Battle of Kings Mountain and is he kin to any of the other Sharp's that were there? Thanks for any info you can give me.
My ancester is John Sharp and Ann Boyd Sharp. I am including a short history I wrote from my research of them. It was written orginally by John Sharp's great-grandson, James Madison Sharp in 1894. John Sharp, Sr. was born in 1727 in the County of Meath, Ireland. John came to America upon reaching manhood (ca 1750) and settled in Lancaster Co. PA. He taught a fencing school for seven years. At the end of each school session, he would collect his wages and buy flaxseed, which he took back to Ireland each fall. On his last trip to Ireland, he married Ann Boyd and brought her back to PA. They settled on a creek called Canegogig. He acquired three large farms here and raised a large family. When the Revolutionary War came to his door, he volunteered along with two Irish servants to fight in the Battle of Brandywine, which took place within fifteen miles of his home. That happened on Sept. 11, 1777. Sometime after the war he sold his property in PA to a man named Coater who paid in Continental money. With his first installment, John bought a farm in Augusta Co., VA. This farm was ten miles northwest of Staunton and within two miles of Middlebrook near the North Mountains and on North River. By the time future payments were due, the Continental money was worthless. Times became hard for such a large family. Their four daughters were still living at home. It was at this time that John, Jr. left home. John, Sr. obviously held on to the property until his death, at which time he sold it to his son Joseph. Ann Boyd Sharp, who was born in Ireland in 1734, died in VA on March 15, 1810. John died on Oct. 18, 1816 in Augusta Co., VA also. A copy of his will from Chalkey, Augusta Abstracts V. III, p 277, is included in this history. The children of John and Ann were all born in Pennsylvania. The birth order is not know exactly. The following order was derived from what information I had. That information is that John Jr. was the youngest son and Jane was the youngest daughter, and the few dates on the other children. 1. James (do not have a birth date, but since he served as a surgeon during the Rev. War he must have been one of the firstborn) 2. Robert 3. Letitia b. 1759 4. Joseph 5. Thomas b. 1761 6. John, Jr. b. 1762 7. Margaret 8. Ann 9. Fanny b. 1768 10. Jane Hope this helps. I have some information of each of the children--most on John, Jr. and Letitia.
