    1. [SHARP-L] Rufus A. Sharp
    2. Sandra Sharp
    3. I am also searching for a Rufus Sharp. He was born ca 1833 in Alabama. The 1860 census of Russell Co., AL shows Rufus A. in the household of his father, John F. Sharp. Rufus was age 27. His occupation was school teacher. A Rufus Sharp enlisted in the 1st City Battalion, Ga. Infantry at Columbus, Ga. which is just across the state line from Russell Co. Is this the same Rufus? Did he survive the War? The 1866 state census of Alabama shows that two members of John F. Sharp's family did not survive the War. I have not been able to find any reference to Rufus A. Sharp after the 1860 census.

A brief look at this family was published in W. C. Sharpe's SHARPE GENEALOGY & MISCELLANY in 1880. This Rufus Sharp moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, where he married Lena Shrigley and had several children. I have a great deal of information on this family, including their ancestry in Germany and elsewhere. Bill Hull
