Hello, The following was an article from the March 23, 1933 LaFollette Press. Alf Sharp Shot Monday Evening. Bill Smiddy has been charged with Killing; Riding in Auto at Time. Alf Sharp, 40, was shot through the forehead from the dark as a man, alleged to have said that he was Bill Smiddy, halted a car in which Sharp and Rufe Speaks were riding just across the Kentucky line from Jellico Monday night. Bill Smiddy, 23, was arrested in Ky., and taken to Williamsburg. Speaks, superintendent of the Big Nickle Mining Co. at Clearfield who was driving the car in which Sharp was riding, said that as they approached Jellico, Ky., a man stepped out into the road and signaled to them to stop. The man said, "Who is this?" according to Speaks. "This is Alf Sharp." Then there was a gunshot and Sharp slumped in his seat, Speaks said. Alfred Sharp was the son of John Sharp & Martha Lay Sharp. He was born in 1881 Campbell County, Tn. He was married to Lillie Strunk. Alfred Sharp was the son of my great grandparents. Would like to find anyone else researching this line of Sharps and if they have any more information on his murder. Thank you, Kathy

Hi Pam, My great-grandfather was: John Sharp son of Nancy Sharp(9/1839-12/1/1900). He was born March 3, 1858 - died August 16, 1923 . He married Martha Lay 1878 Campbell Co. She was the daughter of William Dandy Lay and Nancy Croley. They are both buried Red Cut Cemetery, Campbell County, Tn. John & Martha's children: Rachel Sharp b.1879-1973 md. 1. Calvin Stanfill 2. Wm. Baker 3. Wm. Holt Alfred Sharp b. 1881-d. 1933 md. Lillie Strunk William Sharp b. 1883-d. 1964 md. Hannah Baird daughter of Jesse Harold Baird (Tater" )--my grandparents Margaret Sharp b. 1886-d.1971--md. Daniel Meadors Lewis M. Sharp b. 1888-d. 1978 md.
