Laura, I found the following on the 1860 census for PA., Montgomery County, Borough og Bridgeport. Ephraim Hewitt, 50, laborer, born Ireland Lydia Hewitt, 48, born Ireland Ephraim Hewitt, 23, boatman, born Ireland Ann Hewitt, 9, born Ireland Robert Sharp, 48, Boatman, born Ireland Elizabeth Sharp, 55, born Ireland Samuel Sharp, 19, born PA. Ann Sharp, 17, born PA. Isabel Sharp, 15, born PA. Lydia Hewitt's maiden name was Sharp. Since the Hewitt and Sharp families are together I beleive they may be related. As Lydia and Robert are the same age they could be brother and sister and twins. Hope this helps. My ggg-gf John Johnston Sharp b 1800 Abbeville Dist, SC had a son born 1820 in AL named Edward Grey Sharp. Other Sharps from SC we have been looking at as siblings of JJ Sharp include William Sharp b abt 1795, Edward Grey Sharp b abt 1797, John Sharp b abt 1798, Isaac Sharp b abt 1804, Thomas Sharp b abt 1810 & Vincent Sharp b aft 1810. The father of J J Sharp was John I Sharp, b 1765 in Abbeville District and his wife Altha. There is some question among my cousins as to the wife of John I Sharp. More information is on my webpage at http://www.telepath.com/dataman/jjsharp.html Gene Phillips
The dates and places don't seem to match what we know of the Abbeville Co., SC SHARPS. William Sharp (1787-1844) son of Edward Sharp and Mary Gray, spent his entire life in Abbeville. Also too young to be father of your John F. Had son John R. b 1818. William Sharp (b. 1795) in adjoining Laurens Co., son of Isaac Sharp and Elizabeth Ross, did have son named John, but much too young to be yours. There was a William S. in 1800 Union Co., SC(22011-30010-03) There was a William S in 1790 Chester Co., SC. (1 male, 16 or over; living alone. These two are the only Williams in 1790 or 1800 SC census. I know nothing further about either. Regards, Theron Smith. ---------- > From: Sandra J. Did any of the Abbeville Sharps go into Wilkes and Morgan Counties in Georgia? I am looking for William Sharp who was born in SC. He was the father of John F. Sharp. John F. was born 1803 in Wilkes Co., Ga. One of his sons, Jeptha Franklin, was in the 1918 survey of Civil War vets in Ark. He stated his grandfather was William Sharp and mentioned Morgan Co. On the 1880 census, John F. said both his parents were born in SC. Any help will be appreciated. Sandy Sharp Ingram, Texas
Julie Ann was born abt 1812 in KY (1850 census), married George W. Sharp, abt 1832 in KY (IGI). I have not yet found her maiden name. Their children were Elizabeth, b abt 1831; Miranda, b abt 1834; William H., b abt 1838; Thomas, b abt 1841; and John, b abt 1843; all born in KY. At least the last two were born in Bath Co. I would love to find George and Julie Ann's parents, as well as more info on this family. If I come up with more, I'll pass it along. Bud Sharpe, [email protected]
I don't have the book, but we need to keep in touch. My Sharp family was also from the Abbeville District of SC. I have a webpage (below) that lists some of my Sharp ancestors. I'm off Monday and will check the Genealogy libraries here for that book. I'm doubly blessed because the University and the city library have excellent genealogy sections. Suggest you contact Mr. Jerold Sanders at [email protected] He is a co-author of the book you're interested in. I am descended from Edward's younger brother, John Sharp who married Jane Seawright - both also of Abbeville Co., SC. I'd be interested in knowing how you descend from Henry. Actually, it was Henry's father, an earlier Edward who is from "Lygautry" or something sounding like that, Ireland. Henry was probably b. in Lancaster Co., PA. Jerold is from Edward ii and first wife, Eleanor Campbell; Mary Gray was Edward's 2d wife. In question to your question about the Julie sharp born in Kentucky...... do you know her maiden name? I know my Sharps in Ky here have a Tenn. connection. I thought perhaps that this Julie may be the "ONE" who got them started here!! If she married in Ky/ or Tenn then they moved to Kentucky to raise their family. Let me know...Thanks Mary Jo -----Original Message----- From: Bud & Jari Sharpe <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, November 28, 1999 9:07 PM Subject: [SHARP-L] I'm Still Here >Fellow Sharp Researchers, > >I'm still here looking for Ancestors and more info on George W. On March 13 1838 my ggrandmother was born in Madison Co AL. Her name was Martha Davis. She married Francis Marion Sharp March 16 1865 in Natchitoches LA while he was serving in CSA. He was born November 7 1831 in Meriweather GA. I do not know if he ever lived in AL, Both of them are buried in Crockett, Houston Co TX. Some of this information came from her application for a CSA pension, and some from his enlistment papers for CSA. He died August 24 1913 and she April 11 1931. I do not know if this will help you. If you have any information on Martha Davis, I would appreciate it. We think her mother was Nancy Davis, but we have no verification or anything on who her father was. I am researching the Sharp's that settled in Madison County, Alabama around 1810. My uncle has a book on Sharp's that supposed to have information on the Madison County, Alabama Sharps, but he has been unable to find. It supposed to have been published sometimes in the 1930s. Has anyone every seen or heard of a Sharp Book that was published in the 1930s. That is the only Book that I am interested in. Will be glad to exchange information on the Madison County, Sharps also. Wonder if any of the Sharp researchers have ran across a William H. Sharp married to a Sarah J. ___?_____ of Madison County, Alabama. They were living in New Market, Alabama when William H died Nov 1912. Bob Morrison
In the 1830 census of Anderson county Tenn., I find 3 Sharp households. 1 John Sharp 2 W.M. Sharp 3John Sharp All 3 of these men are between 40-50 years old, the best I can tell. Does anyone know what line they are of. Or who they are? This would put them being born abt 1790-1780.
Merry Christmas and the best to you in the new Millennium!
