Thanks for the information. Before I forget, I will need your name and address for my notes. There is some information I didn't have. I am slowly going over it at this moment. I have decided to send you a gedcom beginning with my husband's grandmother Vera Ione Sharp. This will give you all my notes on the whole line to Sgt William Sharpe. In the index you will see two spellings. One Sharpe and another Sharp. If you can't find a name in one spelling, you might find it in another spelling. I am sending it from the Family Origins program. If you find some information that I might need, please let me know. I would appreciate any new data on this line. Doris LaGaisse PS the marriage date for Julius and Mary Ann Kelley was found in a book on VA marriages written by Patrick Waddell of VA. I contacted him and he was unable to find his source for this information. So, to this date, that information has not been proven. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2000 7:14 PM Subject: Re: [SHARP-L] Henrico Sharpes > > In a message dated 5/15/00 12:43:29 PM, [email protected] writes: > > >My Sharpe's originate from Henrico County VA. To all the Pennsylvania Sharp Lister's!!!!! I have a Tamov (or a variation) Sharp who was married to a Daniel Baker who resided in Media, Pa during middle of the 1800's. They had a son John Baker who was born on September 28th, 1858, who married an Ida R. Markwood. Is there sks who has the 1851 census who could help enlighten me with any further details to remove my block? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for connections to the Subject. All birth dates are in the 1800s. What is my best strategy for locating information? Also, I noticed that so many Sharps are USA southerners. Might there have been migrations from the south to Canada? If so, then why? That is, what were the historic influences? (Possibly the Revolutionary War, and allegiances to The Royalists. . .?) Also, what is the likely ethnicity of the Sharps? Thanks in advance. Howard H o w a r d R a y L a w r e n c e Penn State url: http://www.personal.psu.edu/hrl/
I have some info on Robert Sharp who is known as the "testator" He left a will as you said and his son's second wife, Elizabeth, was left in charge of is estate I guess until her death. Apparently, from an entry in the local paper, that Martha was excecuted for murdering one of her children. The researchers I worked with believe Martha is William's first wife and the mother of his children. They do not believe Eliz to be the mother. Robert lived with them or they lived with him. He left all the children objects of his and land. None of this has been proven, except what is written in Robert Jr's will. Because documents are so rare for this family at this time, William and Martha's marriage had no record. Someone may have found it by now. I haven't done research on this line for many years and just gave up when I hit a brick wall. If you have gedcom capabilities, I can send you a gedcom file to give you what I have on these Sharps...LMK me know and we can trade info. I would be curious to which one of Robert's children you come from. We come down the line from William, Julius and Henry Sharp who m. Esther McCormick. They settled in the Promise City area in Corydon Iowa and this is where my huband's grandmother's line began. There is a Museum and Historical Society on Hwy 2 in southern Iowa, who has a lot of information I gathered from. I have a Vinkler Jones who married Elizabeth Sharpe bef 1772 in Henrico Co. VA. She is the dau of Robert Sharpe Jr. and Sarah..........? The VA Gazette said that this Elizabeth left her husband Vinkler Jones April 1773 edition. This is the only Jones I have in my database. I doubt if this information will help you any. Unless a child of theirs married into the Sharpe family. Do you have any info on Robert Sharpe? I believe he died circa 1782. I have a copy of an article about his will. He had a son William (first wife was executed as a child murderer; second wife Elizabeth was the executor of her father-in-laws will) who had a son William from whom my husband is descended.
<< [email protected] >> I am researching Turner Sharpe born abt. 1774, who possibly lived in Mecklenburg Co, in 1779 to 1804, that could possibly be the same Turner Sharpe living in Henrico in 1850 per the census, died in 1858 at age 84 and is buried in the Shockoe Cemetery, Henrico Co., VA. Good luck. I have a feeling all the Sharpes originate with the original colonist, Capt William Sharpe. He had 2 sons Isaac and Samuel that we know of and there is no data on them except we trace the grandson, Robert Sharpe who owned the land know as "Varina" which is the land originally purchased by Capt William Sharpe and his bride Elizabeth north of the James River. ..... Some diligent researchers found the land deal in English records. His land is the first known recorded land deed in Virginia according to some Sharpe researchers. If we can locate Isaac and Samuel anywhere, we could trace their migration routes. Elizabeth was left a widow and remarried but she willed the land to her daughter from her 2nd marriage. No mention of the 2 boys mentioned in the 1622 census. I hoping someone on this list will have some information on them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hota_Wanagi" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2000 2:07 PM Subject: Re: [SHARP-L] Henrico Sharpes > Thanks Doris, but from what I have and been told, the line I am attempting > to trace first landed in PA (Paxton Township, Lancaster County 1738 land > plat) and then followed the trail down to South Carolina (land grant 1770 in > area of Long Canes, Abbeville District.) > walt > -----Original Message----- > From: dlag <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] <[email protected]> > Date: Monday, May 15, 2000 12:38 > Subject: [SHARP-L] Henrico Sharpes > > > >My Sharpe's originate from Henrico County VA. My Sharpe's migrated to Rockbridge Co VA then to Adams Co, OH then in the big migration in the 1850's to Promise City, IA...I haven't traced anyone yet to your route. But, I have so little data on the VA Sharpes because of the Wars fought there. R. P. Church Cemetery, when he was 74 years old. Lived in Due West, SC. He married Eady ____ on _____, born _____, died _____ . Children were: Edward Sharp, born @ 1804 in _____, died @ 1875 in Floyd County, Georgia, married Nancy Kennedy _____. I have nothing further on Nancy. They had 11 children. Thomas Benton Sharp, born 18 Nov 1810 in _____, died 03 Jan 1884, married Aurrea(?) ______ on ______, born _____, died ______. They had 7 children. Henry Sharp, born 1813 in _____, died _____, married Margaret Hannah on ____, born ______, died _______. They had 5 children. Francis Sharp, born @ 1815 in Abbeville County, SC, died ______, married Matilda Hodges on _____, born 1820 in ____, died _______. They had 5 children. Bennett Sharp, born @ 1820 in _____, died @ 1887 in Mississippi, married Aramenta Winn on _____, born 1819, died ______. They had 7 children. Mary Ann Sharp, born 1808 in ____, died ______, married Thomas Shirley on _____, born ______, died _______. Caroline Sharp, born ____ in ____, died _____, married D. Wright on _____, born _____, died ______. Joseph R. Sharp, born 1799 in Abbeville County, SC, died @ 1875 in Floyd County, Georgia, married Elizabeth Shirley on ______, born 1801, died 12 Jan 1855 in Floyd County, Georgia. They had 9 children. Eleanor Sharp, born 1805 in ____, died ______, married George Shirley on _____, born 1800 in SC, died _____. They had 14 children. I can postulate that all of Henry's and Eady's children were born in Abbeville County, but I can not prove this for all. Also, in 1846, Joseph and his family, Edward and his family, Eleanor and her family with their mother moved from Abbeville County, SC to Floyd County, GA where all of them joined the Enon Baptist Church. Thus I would also postulate that Eady died and is buried in Floyd County, GA., but once more no proof :-(. Thanks for any help or leads..........walt sharp
My Sharpe's originate from Henrico County VA. The colonizer was named William who bought land north of the James River in the London company, known as "Neck of the Land". He married Elizabeth.....and we know of two sons Isaac and Samuel in the census taken in 1620.If you come from this line, I have some info I can share with you. I am looking for Julius Sharp(e) who married Mary Ann Kelley about abt 1790 in Rockbridge County, VA...Doris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hota_Wanagi" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2000 9:36 AM Subject: [SHARP-L] Henry Sharp and Eady ?? > Hi All, > Am taking a different attack on this ancestor of mine than what I > normally do, so plse to bear with me.
