    2. I am looking for information on my grandmother: ALMA ELIZABETH (Johnson) SHARP died 9 Feb 2000 Willoughby, Lake, OH Born 4 Mar 1901 Letcher, KY to Sarah (Sexton)Johnson and Arch Johnson. Both parents died while my grandmother was young and she was raised by her sister. Name was possibly Tilly as my mother remembers my grandmother talking about her and mentioning that name. She moved to Willougby, Ohio either after marrying my grandfather GEORGE SHARP or before. I have never gotten info on this. George Sharp has brothers, one of which was Orville who passed away some yrs ago and also lived in Ohio. I have a little more information and would be happy to share it. I hope to hear from anyone that knows of these names soon..Thanks! Be safe! Laura

    2. Howard, I am not sure of the origin of Monroe in my gggrandfathers name. He is the son of Mary Ann Sharp (daughter of Samuel Sharp and granddaughter of John Sharp) I am not sure who his father was. Mary Ann married Jonathan TOLLE and changed his name to TOLLE. At some point he changed it back to Sharp. I am wondering if Monroe could have been his fathers last name.??? L. 2. Indian censuses are separate schedules, not part of the federal census at all. Some can be gotten through Heritage Quest, or the LDS Family History Centers, or from the National Archives, which would have all of them. Karen

    3. Sue this is Ruth, I have checked the Indian records from Washington(Dawls)or what ever the name of them are but found nothing. However My Motherinlaw says that She and My father inlaw recieved a letter from out in OkLahoma about 30 to 35 years ago that stated or wanted to know if the 4 boys wanted to sign up for something, however she didn't think they would be interested in it so she didn'tmention anything about recieving it to them. Now she doesn't remember what she did with it. What a bummer! If anyone knows of any letters that was sent out about that time would you please let me know. 2. HI THERE! I too am researching the Sharp family. Your names don't sound familiar to me but my grandfather..George Sharp..had told us that his mother was a full blooded Cherokee as well! I can't find anything on this side of my family either and it's very frustrating. My grandparents lived in Ohio and I know my grandmother was born in KY and her parents died when she was young. Her name was Alma (Johnson) Sharp. I don't know if George lived in KY as well and married her there or if she moved to Ohio and that's where they met. I have heard that George's father's name was George as well. Do you recognize any of this? I don't recognize your names but I think it's interesting we both have Indians in the family. We're all fair skinned and red headed. Hope to hear from you soon! Laura (Sharp) Davis

    3. I am looking for Sharps from S. IL, in particular a Josiah Austin Sharp. Family records say he was born in Alexander Co., IL about 1872. Nothing is known about his parents or siblings. Rumor says his mother, too, was Cherokee, and "very mean". Josiah Austin Sharp married Martha Ann Coberly (sp.?) in Union Co., IL and had 12-14 children (not all survived). One of these kids was Charles Howard Sharp, my husband's father. Martha died (no wonder) in the early '20's and Josiah remarried, (?) to an Ethel Stokes. He made a living as a tinsmith and became quite well-to-do. The family moved to E. St. Louis at some point in time. All the kids left home as soon as possible; Josiah was an abusive father. Several wound up in S. CA. and one in Decatur, IL. Josiah died in E. St. Louis, year unknown. I am trying to find out if the rumors of Native American heritage are true. This is one hard family to trace. Joanne Sharp [email protected] wrote: > HI THERE! I too am researching the Sharp family. 3. The following information is extracted from the book "DESCENDANTS OF EDWARD SHARP," compiled by Mr. Bowie and Mr. Sanders. I am only listing those that I found as moving to Mississippi in the mid 1800s or after the War Between the STATES. If I missed someone from this timeframe, when I go back over it again I will post them. walt sharp John Richey Sharp, born 24 Dec 1818, died unknown, married unknown, son of William Sharp and Ann Richey moved to Greenwood. Nothing else is mentioned in the book. Henry A. Sharp, born 18 Nov 1842, unknown, died 16 Aug 1917, buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Meridan. Married unknown. Had 6 children Marshall Casper Sharp, born 16 Apr 1840 in Abbeville County, SC; died 06 Jul 1867 in Mississippi. Son of Enoch Marshall Sharp and Nancy Barmore. Married Margaret Jane Rasor. She is died Walnut Grove, Greenwood County, SC on 02 Nov 1915. They had at least one child, James Casper Sharp (no data available). William Ebenezer Sharp, born 1832, died unknown (postulatation on my part Mississippi, but no proof aside he moved to Mississippi after the War Between the STATES.) Married Sara Luticia Rasor. They had at least two children. He is listed in the book as a member of the Confederate Army. Son of Enoch Marshall Sharp and Nancy Barmore. *************This data is questionable and needs more study************** Robert W. Sharp, born 04 Oct 1836, died unknown. Married Elizabeth Richey. Children unknown. Member of the Confederate Army. Moved to Mississippi after War Between the STATES. Son of Enoch Marshall Sharp and Nancy Barmore. In "A COMPILATION OF GEORGE & MARY BARMORE'S SOUTHERN FAMILY HISTORY," compiled by Donald L. Ross, Robert is listed as dying 07 Oct 1863 in Mississippi and buried in Donnalds, Abbeville Cty, SC.
