    1. Re: [SHARP-L] Sorry Listmembers!
    2. Hi to my Sharp's, I am new to this list as of today and it has been a long road to find you! My name is Donna Davis and Andrew Sharp is my 10th Great Grandfather! My Sharp's go down several generations until finally a girl Sharp, Lydia, married and changed the name. Lydia Sharp was my 4th great grandmother and she married Simon Peter Wilcox. I have had a lot of trouble convincing the Sharp relatives that this is so but, finally have! They believe mw now! The rest of this letter will show my first 4 generations. I want to know about my family more than anything else in this world and hope to find more cousin's here who are more accepting and would be willing to share with me MY heritage! I know that maybe this letter sounds strong but through Lydia Sharp and Simon Wilcox's family bible I have found my people. Please let me know if you see a link and I will prove to you how I belong! Sincerely, Donna Descendants of Andrew Sharp Generation No. 1 1. ANDREW1 SHARP He married HELEN HENDRIE1. Child of ANDREW SHARP and HELEN HENDRIE is: 2. i. WILLIAM2 SHARP, b. We hear from Morris-Town that his Excellency the Governor, upon intelligence that a number of people in Scooley's mountain had enlisted in the enemy's service, had several of them apprehended, and committed to gaol. Among all the romantic stories (says a correspondent) which the tories propagate to delude the ignorant and credulous, their account of the French fleet is the most triumphantly impudent. This they represent as being dispatched by his Most Christain Majesty to co-operate with Lord Howe's squadron for suppressing the revolt in America. We hear from good authority, that this day se'nnight two British commissaries deserted from the enemy at New-York and came over to Jersey. They report that many others of their acquaintance intend to embrace the first opportunity to do the like, so great is their aversion to their present hopeless situation. 1. [SHARP-L] RE: my grandparents George and Alma Sharp
    2. Thanks Mary! Here is all I have at this time: I am looking for information on my grandmother: ALMA ELIZABETH (Johnson) SHARP Born 4 Mar 1901 Letcher, KY to Sarah (Sexton)Johnson and Arch Johnson. Died 9 Feb 2000 Willoughby, Lake County, OH Both parents died while my grandmother was young and she was raised by her sister. Her name was possibly Tilly as my mother remembers my grandmother talking about her and mentioning that name. She moved to Willougby, Ohio either after marrying my grandfather GEORGE SHARP or before. I have never gotten info on this. George Sharp has brothers, one of which was Orville who passed away some yrs ago and also lived in or around Willoughby, Ohio. My father, son of Alma and George Sharp, is Jerry Sharp. He lives in Mentor on the Lake, Ohio at this time and is in his 50's. He has a sister Donna and I'm not sure of the others but I believe there is an Avenelle also. They both live in Willoughby at this time. My grandparents were buried in Willoughby.

Since then, I have heard from others who had the name, but no details. I tried to reach you by private e-mail but had the message returned three times. Could you give me your own address? 3. I recently discovered that I have a connection to the William Sharp who married Jane Woodward, Madison Co., Al ca 1817. They had children John, Eli, Lucinda, Bethena, George, James G. William, Hannah, Wilson, Andrew Jackson, and Washington. I have found William and Jane on the 1850 and 1860 census still in Madison. I am interested in the connection to Eli Woodward age 50 and Hannah Woodward age 74 on the 1850 census in Madison. My ancestor John A. Woodward married Mary Rebecca Johnson in Madison Co., 1813. I believe that Eli, Jane and John A. were brothers and sister and that Hannah was their mother. Can anyone confirm this? Sandy Sharp

    2. Bill, we've corresponded before, but I've never asked you how you discovered this possible connection between Hiram Sharp and the Lessix guy? How sure are you that there is this connection? I thought that if we knew how you made this connection, it might help the rest of us who are researching the same line to piece this puzzle together. As you may recall, I am a descendant of Hiram Sharp, Sr. through his son, Hiram, Jr., and all my relatives were in the Carroll County, GA area. Most of them also owned much land in surrounding counties as well. I've been stumped on Hiram, Sr's parents for years so hope we can all solve this mystery. Thanks for sharing. Margaret Jackson

    3. Hello, listers. I have a Mr. Lessix married to (or fathering a child with) Mary Sharp in MD. The date was probably 1788, since the child, Hiram, was born 16 Nov. 1789. Mary and her two brothers moved to Augusta, GA about two yeasrs later, minus Lessix. Hiram took his mother's name, and was known the rest of his life as Hiram Sharp, (Don't know what happened to Mary or her two brothers.) Hiram married Sarah Ann Owen on 28 Nov. 1811, and they moved to Carroll Co., GA, whwre they raised a large family. Hiram's daughter Elizabeth was my great grandmother, marrying William Williams, living south of Villa Rica. Can anyone help me with the whole name of Mr. Lessix? Also, was he French? I speculate he may have been a French soldier who fought in our Revolution, then had to return to France. Help will be appreciated. Bill
