Good morning Bill, The Francis Marion you mention is in my direct line. Could you send me what you have so I can compare it with the information I have? Thanks! Have a very colorful lithographed 1880 marriage certificate from a Bible. Marriage took place in Philadelphia. Show me you're related to the couple and it's yours. See particulars at URL: http://members.home.net/rcrandt/marcert.htm Dick Randt Ellicott City, MD [email protected]

BIIy Ray, Gwen and oops I forgot the other name...sorry, thanks for the responses. My Francis Marion and his brother Moses rode to Latexo, Houston Co TX on their horses to work in the sawmill, soon after the Civil War. Francis married Martha Davis Porter, a widow, with a small child in Natacthes? LA in the spring before the end of the war. All of their children were born in TX. They are buried in Crockett, Houston Co TX with some of their children. One of their sons was named Leonard Hampton so there may be a connection in the list of URLs that I received that had a Leonard and also a Hampton. LH was my grandfather, but he used the name Stell - even on the census in 1910 or 1920 - maybe both. I have forgotten. I tried the leads from you and unfortunately I am still looking at that brick wall. Thanks so much for trying. Maybe it will lead to something later. Thanks again. sd
Hi Sue, In your message to the list you said that Francis Marion Sharp was your GG-Grandfather. I have not found a connection to this family, but I do have a little information on a Francis Marion Sharp who was born Oct 12, 1831 (don't know the place), married Elizabeth McDaniel on Sep 17, 1854 in Winston Co., MS, died Dec 22, 1894 in Winston Co., MS, and is buried in Center Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery west of Louisville, MS. Is this your Francis Marion Sharp, or is this person in your line? Bill Sharp Harvest, AL
Back in June Sandra and Tom posted information on the Sharps in SC and GA. I am interested in those also. My ggreatfather, Francis Marion Sharp, said on his enlistment papers for CSA that he was born in Meriweather GA. He volunteered in Louisiana, but came to TX immediately after the war and remained in the Houston Co TX area until he died in August 1913. He received a pension from TX. I have no information about how or when he got to LA or where the family was between GA and LA. With the name Francis Marion, I would assume there is some connection with SC and "the swamp fox". Any one with this information or ties to this family? sd
Hello everyone, Any info on Sharp would be greatly appreciated, I have ran into a brick wall in doing my family genealogy on my dad's side. Maybe someone will have some info that can help me. This all the info I have been able to gather so far, I have searched various of sites, but no more info on either one of my gr gr grandparents or their children. It is as if they have just vanished. I would like to find out more about them, who their parents were or maybe locate a relative of this Sharp line. Any leads or info would be greatly appreciated. My gr gr grandfather, Richard Sharp b: Abt 1830/1838, Russell Co., KY married Elizabeth F. Johnson b: Abt 1834 Adair Co., KY. Children's names: James Henry Sharp b:1855 married Elizabeth Lane; Malissa A. Sharp married Martin Redman; Willis Elmore Sharp b: Mar 15,1858 d: Mar 18,1920 married Rosie Black; John C. Breckenridge Sharp b: 1860 married Laura T. Lane; William Thomas Sharp b: 1862 d: 1922 married Mary Elizabeth Richeson (or Richardson?) b: 1858 ( my gr grandparents). Also any leads or info as to any additional siblings of my gr grandparents would be appreciated too. All I seem to have is my grandparents, and couple more sibling; William "Artist" Sharp b: May 22,1892 married Lillie Mae Simpson b: Feb 1892 d: 1931 (my grandparents). Other siblings of William Thomas Sharp and Mary Elizabeth Richeson (or Richardson?) are: Minnie Sharp married German Simpson; Rosa Ella Sharp married Arvin Norman Akin . Again, any help is appreciated. Donna [email protected]
George, I regret that the only information I have on Hulda's father John is what was included in the SHARP-List message. Based on your comments, it sounds as if there was a considerable connection between the Marshalls and the Sharps that may have gone on for several generations. I don't see an obvious link in this case, but since Hulda's father was from VA, it is likely there there was some relationship. There can't have been all that many of either family around at that time. I will hold your information in my Sharp file in case something turns up. I am new at this and just started hunting for relatives of my great grandmother Hulda (Sharp) Marshall. For what it is worth, my Marshalls seem to have come out of Berks County, PA before moving on to Logan County, OH. They were of German extraction. Some of them could have gone south into West Va and VA. Just in case you have additional information on any of these three Marshalls that you mentioned, my GGGG grandfather John Marshall came from Germany around 1736-1740 and settled with his parents in Berks County, PA ., on the banks of the Tulpehocken. It is reported that he made an agreement in Germany to pay for his passage from a port in Holland. It is also reported that he served as a soldier under George Washington during the Revolutionary War. His son Conrad Marshall, my GGG grandfather was born in1767 about 27 years after the family settled in Berks County. He repotedly served in the War of 1812. Conrad had a son, Conrad b 1798 in Berks County, PA. It was his son JohnMarshall, born 1830, who wound up in Logan County Ohio and married Hulda Sharp. Thanks for sharing your information. John F. My apologies for inadvertently copying all Sharp researchers on my response to the posting on Hulda Sharp by John Marshall. I'm sure none of us like our Inbox cluttered this way. George A Sharp, III
John, I wondered if you knew any more about the John Sharp who was Hulda's father. My family is from VA. Was their ancestry German or English/Scottish? Interestingly, I have ancestors Nancy Sharp marrying John W. Marshall, b. 1806, Mary and Martha Sharp marrying James Marshall, (these three are sisters)b. 1804 and another ancestor, Hanna McKinney, marrying Joseph Marshall, b. 1792. Hi Doris, From what I have seen in this book, they moved south from PA to the Carolinas and then spread out south and west from there. If Edward had any brothers or sisters, they are not mentioned. Edward shows up in PA in 1738. walt -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, July 13, 2000 08:31 Subject: Re: [SHARP-L] Book on Sharp Family >Hi > >Did all your SHARPS move south east? Hi Did all your SHARPS move south east? I have been looking for a AnnSHARP that married a George Markley. She was from Philadelphia in Delaware County, PA. I beleive she was born ca 1750 Thank you. Doris
Did any of the Abbeville Sharps go to Georgia? I am looking for a John and a William (who isn't?) who were in Wilkes and Morgan Cos., in Ga around 1800. Sandy Sharp
Hi Tom, Sorry for the delay in responding. These books deal exclusively with the Sharp line that originated in PA and then moved into the Abbeville (Old Ninety Six District) area of South Carolina. Sad to say did not find any William that fits your parameters. walt -----Original Message----- From: Tom Sharp wrote on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 10:01: >I would also be interested in this book we had a William Sharp (Scot-Irish) first came to America 1749 landed in SC. Hello everyone, Hulda SHARP was my Great grandmother. Born around 1832 in Logan County Ohio. death date unknown. In 1855, she married my great grandfather, John MARSHALL, in Logan Co. He was born 25 Jun 1830 in Port Clinton, Schuykill Co. PA. Death date unknown. Hulda and John had three children, Louis, Carrie and Charles E Marshall. Charles was my grandfather. The following statement is a quote from an abstract of the COMMEMORATIVE BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD of Northwestern Ohio as published in 1899 and handed down through the family. Hulda's father was John Sharp, a native of Virginia who came to Ohio at a very early day in one of the first colonies. They located in Chillicothe in 1797. The Sharp family settled in Logan Co. on the headwaters of the Big Darby Creek, in 1802, which is where Hulda was born. I am attempting to find out more about Hulda, such as who her mother was and more about her family and her children. Any leads or information would be sincerely appreciated. I am gathering this information for a family history to give to my children, one grandchild, three nieces and their children. John F. Marshall [email protected]
