This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------86C7D7456061C81066E46144 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I am interested in information regarding the parents of Frank (or Matthew Frank) Sharp, born September 16, 1848 (my great grandfather). He apparently had a brother, William and a sister, Ella (who married a William Hosea). Frank Sharp's first wife was Alpha ... from Scott, County Indiana. Second wife was Sarah Alice Wilson, also of Scott County, Indiana, and his third wife was Nancy Ellen (Ella) Bare Hanlin, of Clark county Indiana. Frank Sharp died August 9, 1906. There are two Frank Sharps of the right age listed in the Clark County, Indiana census of 1860, one of whom was born in Ohio and living with the Thomas Lewis family. The Lewis family also included children Eliz Jane and William, which seems close to Ella and William. The other Frank Sharp listed in the 1860 census lives with parents S.R. and A.R. I have no idea if either of these Frank Sharps is my relative. First and middle names in my Sharp line include Horace, Morris (middle name), Morton (middle name), and Richard. Other family names related by marriage include Nay and Price. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! I have never seen so many responses to a family as to the SHARPS; however, I also have not seen any that apply to MY Sharps. My line is: Jacob Sharp married Nancy Hunter of Bertie or Hertford Co., NC, probably late 1700's. Their son, Col. Elisha Hunter Sharp married Martha Williams Battle 12/10/1837 in Lowndes Co. MISS. Their son, William Battle Sharp (Fort) married Sallie Bouldin Collier 1/2/1865 and their son (my grandfather), Hugh Franklin Fort, married Mary Ada Fulcher Wasson. If anyone else is in this line, I would love to hear.
Hello Dan, Sorry it took so long to get information from my sister Judy. She finally got in touch with the Sharp that supposely has all the info on the Sharp family. Well she called him and he said he has 5,000 pages on the Sharp family. He said that two of the Sharp brothers came from "England" that the queen had a bounty out for them. I think my sister has this Sharps name right now it is "David" and his telephone number is area code 256-766-4265. He does not have a computer. So I don't know where he got so much information. I thought you might want to call him. I would never be able to get you the information without him having a computer. See what you can find out. I was going to tell you a little about my family. As you know my dad was Thomas Leslie Sharp he married my mom which was Clara Lavonia Herston Sharp. I am one of the two daughters of my dads last marriage. My full name is Brenda Joyce Sharp Davis. I was married three times the first time to a Henry Douglas Pennington. He was killed in a car accident in 1964. I remarried to a Bobby Ray Terry. I was married 6 years to him and got a divorce in 1972. In Sept. of 1972 I remarried to a Thomas Riley Davis. I have three children. Michael Dwayne Pennington, Terry Keith Pennington, also a daughter by Bobby Ray Terry. Her name is Kimberly Dawn Terry Davis. Adopted by my husband Thomas Davis. My oldest son Michael has two daughters Amy Pennington, and Heather Pennington. My son Terry has one son named Douglas Pennington. My daughter Kimberly has one son named Ryan Keith Riboldi. My sister name is Judy Amazonia Sharp. She is married to a Paul Douglas Fox. She has a daughter named Mitzi Kay Fox McCall . Her son's name is Christopher Fox. Hope this helps you a little. I don't know anything much about my dad's second marriage. I know their mother Lydia is dead. Judy my sister said another one of our half brothers died last year the one named Robert. The one you were talking about that played the guitar. Everyone called him Bob. My sister knows more about that family than I do. I have been gone from the area for almost 30 years. So I don't know much about them. I will ask my sister if it is ok to give you her e-mail address. I am probably suppose to go through the Sharp Root mail. I will if you want me too. I didn't hear from you lately let me know if you are getting my e-mails. I will go for now have a nice day! Brenda Davis Killeen. Texas
I agree with the comment about the number of responses for Sharp Lines. However, didn't any of the various lines enter Penna. with the exception of my Sharp Line. The others seem to have gone south. I am back to 1780 and against a brick wall. I am wondering if my Sharps came up through Virginia since the southwest of Pa. was in contest between Virginia and Pa. for many years. A lot of recent postings concern SHARPS from Pennsylvania. So, I thought I would again, post my family. My g-g-grandfather was Charles Sharp, born 6 Dec 1805. He married Susan L. Stokes, born 7 March 1812 in Morrestown, Burlington, N.J. The couple had eight children, all males! They were: 1. Horace M. b. March 1833 2. John M. b. 7 October 1835 3. Lewis L. b. 1837 4. William B. b. 1840 5. Ellis S. b. 1843 6. Charles H. b. 1844 7. Howard H. b. July 1846 8. Eward W. b. May 1850 Charles and Susan probably married in Pennsylvania then moved to Camden, Camden, N.J. in 1845. Charles was a member of the Camden City Council in the 1860's. Charles died 18 September 1881, Susan 7 March 1893. I am looking for Charles and Susan's parents and any relatives of their children. Tootie, Please, don't apologize and no inconvenience to me. Perhaps you could send me the information on the George W. with a brother Jacob. My George B. has a brother Jacob. John, I have 4 Jacobs, one with a brother George W. Both born in PA, Greene County. I have 12 George's none seem to fit just what you have sent me. I have parents of all of these and the siblings as well. I will continue to look as I go and see if I find him, or them, Jacob and George. Some of my PA Sharps migrated to IL and I just thought we might have a link. Sorry about sending Charles to the wrong John.......I get lots of inquiries and I do make mistakes. Please accept my apology for any inconvenience to you.
Sorry John, sent him to the wrong John. Sorry.
With all of this information on the Sharp family, surely someone would know about a JANE SHARP. As far as we know, she was born in Tennessee (or near the KY border)--we believe in Campbell Co, TN. Her birth date was 25 January 1817. At age 12 (yes, you read that right) she married George Rains. They were married in about 1829, also in Tennessee. Before moving to MO in about 1835, at least two children were born-- James Alfred, Eliza Ann & maybe Martha and Thomas J. They moved to Bates County, MO, and eventually they had 15 children. I am anxious to figure out who her parents were. I know there were lots of Sharps in the Campbell and Union Counties in TN, just have no clue where she fits in! Obviously it to too early for census records to do any good. Can anyone help? Kay Winter Colorado Springs, CO

Tootie, I am going by very little that is documented. The information so far comes from family memories, some letters with names and a page of cemetery listings from the Rupp County Cemetery in Clark County, Illinois. I have not seen any census entries. George is, I believe, George B. Sharp born in 1829 if the cemetery entry is accurate. There is some reason to believe that George was born in Pennsylvania. Someone once told me that the 1870 census shows a George Sharp, age 40, born in Pennsylvania with seven children, one of whom was a Jacob, age 15 in 1870, which would fit with the Jacob I show as born in 1856. Also, I believe that George had two wives: Frances who died Septebember 15, 1861, and the second Isabel (may be Cunningham) who died in 1863. Does this help? I really appreciate you sticking with this. Sincerely, John W.
