    3. Frankie: My SHARP line was in both Scott and Copiah Counties, MS prior to settling in TX. I haven't heard of Elisha SHARP, but have heard of Eli B. SHARP, whom my 3rd great-grandfather, George Turner SHARP (1829-1905), lived with prior to establishing his own household. Unfortunately, this is as far back as I have information. Please let me know if you think that there might be a link... Thanks! 3. I am trying (oh so desperately..)to find the parents of my Catherine Louise SHARP. She married George HAWORTH in July, 1852 Albany NY. He died and she remarried James HARROP. They ended up in Adams, Berk, MA. I have very old certificate of Catherine's marriage to Haworth but no parents listed. A great uncle once wrote down some names connected to her family and listed sisters as Margaret, Jane, Laura and a brother Absalom. 2. William Brooks Hull
    3. In my family line there was a William Sharp who married Katie Drain in Winnebago County, Illinois (Rockford area) and later lived at Downs, Kansas (Osborne County as far as I can determine). This man had two sons that survived him, according to an obituary (which I don't have at hand). William was the son of Edward Sharp and Rebecca Scott, who lived in the Rockford, Illinois, area.

    2. My great-grandmother, Carrie, and her sister, Helen (Nell), were Sharps .....maiden name. They lived in upstate NY and were born 1861 and 1864. They died in upstate NY. They were both American Natives with floor-length raven blue-black hair. connie

    3. Robert Alexander (Zan) Sharp b. Feb. 1858 AL d. Dec. 17, 1914 Athens, Henderson Co., TX. Son of Robert M. Sharp 1835 and M. Nissa Herring 1836 (both from AL). Grandson of George W. Sharp 1801 TN and Artemisia Acker 1810 NC. They all died in TX. R. A. (Zan) was first married to a Dora (have no maiden name). Dora was born abt. 1864 LA . Don't know her parents yet....but, they are listed as b. Ky. Zan, Dora, and a year old son, Richard, are shown in 1880 Van Zandt Co. TX census living with Zan's widowed father. Either Dora and Richard died, or Dora took Richard and left. By 1883 Zan was remarrying to Mary Ella Gowins/Goins b. March 1858 (MS or AR... but, probably MS) d. abt. 1926-27 (I am told....yet to find documentation or gravesite.... I am told she was buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Scurry, Kaufman Co., TX...but, when requesting a lookup, she was not found). Mary Ella Gowins/Goins was the daughter of Samuel Goins/Gowins (b. abt. 1816 TN d. after 1900 Rains Co., TX) and his first wife, Mary Ann (Polly) Wood(s), who was b. abt. 1820 AL. and would have died in AR before Nov. 1863, at which time Samuel married Martha Roland. Samuel Goins is suspected to be the Native American. It was stated by my grandmother's older sisters (who have all passed on) that Mary Ella told them that "Zan married her straight of the reservation". This reservation would have had to have been in Van Zandt Co., TX......because they were married there January 11, 1883. That is where Zan was in 1880.....and, Mary Ella's father and stepmother moved there with all the kids by the 1870 census. Zan and Mary Ella were the parents of my mother's father. Mother never got to know them, because they both died before she was born. I have found through research, that my grandmother's people (Banks) and the Sharps were all in Tuscaloosa Co. AL, Cherokee Co.TX, Van Zandt Co.TX, Kaufman Co.TX, Henderson Co. TX, and Kaufman Co. TX......as well as Dallas and Tarrant Cos. TX in later years... around the same time. There is documentation of Mary Ella's half-sister, Melissa Bell Gowin/Gowins, marrying John Quincy Adams .... who was full-blood Choctaw. But...other than "hearsay"....and speculation from Goins/Gowins/Goings history reports... we are still not sure of the Native American blood of our Samuel Gowins/Goins line. Shirley

    3. Thanks Ruth, I still don't have any answers to this. My husband's great great grandfather was born in Casey. He later moved to Illinois with his wife and children. They also had children in Illinois. They Son George Sharp later moved from Illinois to Chanute Kansas. I just wish we could figure this out. There are also Combest in Casey County Ky as well as Caldwell. 2. Sally Combest,MD
    3. Hello Ruth, My greatgrandmother was Sallie Jane Sharp, born in Casey Co., KY to James Wallace and Elizabeth Davis Sharp. Sallie married George Washington Combest in 1903 and they had 5 children. James Wallace and Elizabeth Davis Sharp and George and Sallie Sharp Combest all moved to Moody, McLennon Co., TX and died there. George Combest was also born in Casey Co., KY to Fountain and Mary Chilton Williams Combest. I think that James Wallace Sharp was son of James Sharp, son of William? Sharp. I am just starting up this branch of my family tree. My impression is that there are still quite a few Combests in KY, some in OK and TX. They have regular reunions in KY. I have pictures of these people in case you would be interested. Thank you Sally Combest named for my greatgrandmother "Mama Sal" > -----Original Message----- > From: ruth sharp [mailto:rsharp41@hotmail.com] > Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2002 5:47 PM > To: SHARP-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [SHARP-L] CHEROKEE MARRIED TO SHARP MALE > > > when I get back to Illinois where the pictures are I will scan an > send them > to you an maybe someone will be able to tell if they look like > any of their > family members. > Ruth > > > >From: "Lisa L. 3. Lisa, all that I have are the names of William Henrys parents.I got them off Wm.Henry's Marriage Licenes, He married Rose Anne M. Ham in the state of Illinois,Sangamon County,Small town of Glenarm in 1903. It list his mother as Theresa an his father as John Sharp. No maiden name for Theresa.I left all my papers at our cabin in Illinois, and am doing this from Memory. This family was never discused around my husband an his brothers, because his mother an dad were first cousins.About 40 years ago I had the Asiatic Flu,an was very bad.(They didn't think that I was going to make it, an my father inlaw came to my house an sit with me for several hours. The story he told me(long brfore computers) was that his father was born in Casey Co. an that his mother had carried Wm.Hemry an Mary on her back from Casey Co. to Illinois.I also remembered him talking about being related to the Combest an Callwell or Caldwell familys. It was hard to understand him as he could not wear dentures and had lost all his teeth many years before that. He did say that Theresa his grand mother was Indian. He did not mention any first names. As i said I got them from his dads marriage lincense. How ever when his dad Wm.Henry died he put on his death record that his father was unknown an also his mother. How ever Wm. Henry an Mary had a brother boen in Illinois,Charles Franklin Sharp, who had no children of his own an a step son gave the name of John as his father when he died. And mother unknown. That is all that I know. I do have a picture of Theresa holding a baby that I believe was taken about the time that Wm. an Rose were Married. As she is sitting in a chair that is also in what I have been told was the wedding picture of Wm.Henry and Rose's.We do not know what happened to Theresa as there was a dispute in the Timber camp they were living in an a story that my husband's Aunt Shirley told.Theresa had a very bad temper an got mad at som man there an had his head across a choping block an ready to chop his head off with a axe when she was stopped. It is said that she picked up her Youngest son an put him accross her shoulders an took off down the timber road an was never heard of after that. The son she took with her My father inlaw spoke his name but I can't remember what it was.The son she took with her never contacted the family after he was grown. It is thought that she went to a Indian Reservation in Oaklahoma. This incidence took plase close to the Iowa, Illinois, an Missouri Lines where they come together. This is all that I know. I just wish that someone on the list would reconize this last story as being tokd by the son she took with her an make contact with me.In my mind this child was 5 to 10 years old when she left with him an should have remember what happened the day she left with him.It is said thast she was about 6 foot tall an very strong.
