John Sharp and Jane Maxwell from Scotland do not seem to have any connection with the Sharp's coming from Germany in 1734. Anyway, none has been proven at this time. Would be interesting to know if John and Jane Sharp could have been kin to our german Sharp's. My ancestors were from the Palatine area, original name Scharfenstein (?). Settled in Hunterdon Co., NJ ca 1734. Ginny in Seattle
I have one, Susanna Schaub, born about 1740, place unknown, who married Jacob Barntz (Barnhardt/Berndt/Barns, etc., ad infinitum) on 12 Feb 1758 at the Tohickon Union Church in Bucks County, PA. She died young after giving birth to at least my 4th gr-grandmother, Elizabeth Barntz (later Stone), and I know no more about her parentage or family other than that several of the Schaubs moved southward and changed the spelling to Sharp.
You'll also want to look for Schaub and Shaub and Scharf if you're looking for Sharps in Germany. 8:o)
Hello Marabelle, According to the passenger list and the Allegiance Oath, Isaac Sharp signed his name as SCHÄUP. It is believed that this family may has originated in Scotland, going into Germany to avoid persecution for religious reasons in the mid 1600's. I am very curious about your lineage as very confused over John Joseph Sharp How do you arrive at the middle name Joseph? What proof do you have that he is the son of Isaac Sharp? I have been trying for years to verify this fact without success. Who was your John Joseph Sharp married to? Do you have a American Revolution war record for John Joseph Sharp? Would love to see a copy. And last, please tell us of your descending line from John Sharp. I have info for Isaac Sharp in my Sharp data base for those interested. No, not as far as I know. but I don't really know for sure. They maintain schools in the hill country One of theschools is the Kate DuncanSmith DAR School for poor children. It is free. The School is in Grant, Alabama. marabellereason@aol.com
Can I ask what exactly does the DAR do? I hear they give scholarships out but do they give them to descendents of men that were in the Rev.War or to anyone.
