When enrollment increased from twenty-two teachers that first year to fifty-four, the normal school was transferred first to Plant City, then to St. Petersburg. Among the seventy-seven teachers enrolled for the 1897 institute were a number of Plant City teachers, including Professor and Mrs. E.G. Burney, Tom Beaty, T.M. Venning, Charles Shannon, Fred Robinson, Irvin Walden, Katie Young, Hattie Hendrix, and J.E. Knight.......
